Default 351W BASED STROKERS---INFO WANTED!

I know that there is info on the net about 351w strokers, but I want some info from you guys! I wanna build a 351 stroker with efi. I was thinking about 418" or 427". Id like to hit 500hp WITH OUT boost. Id like to konw peoples diff opinions on what you think I should use for heads/intake and such to get to that hp. specs and a build sheet would be awesome.

I was thinking about a super spyder intake, but not so sure on heads.

Thanks!

heads and NA go BIG no smaller then a 205 port but I would look into some thing in the 225 cc port. Like a TFS high port head (IMO). a Victor JR intake set up for EFI and a way to tune it. A stock block will take 500 HP without issues at all so that is a plus. with the right camshaft 11.1 compression should not be a real big deal to run on 93 pump. I like Cam Motion for camshafts but there are others also. Is it a auto or stick? what do you intend to do with the car? I got a few friends with stroker W engines and all of them in the 10s with very mild engines so it is not real hard to make HP with them. My plans are to turbo the 408 I got when I am ready to start back on my car so we will see.

If it is more of a street car then strip you could back the compression down to 10.1 or 10.5. and would not give up much HP. Hard to tune no not really but you still want a way to do it I would not depend on what Ford put in there for a 302 to run a 427. you could have a chip burnt also I just like the fact that YOU can change the tune anytime you want and don't have to keep paying someone to re burn a chip. I also hope you have a good stick a stock 5 speed will get ate up with a big CID Windsor

Getting a 408 to make a reliable easy to live with 500hp is not that difficult. You won't need any custom or trick parts, either.

Actual parts selection really depends on usage. If it's a fun street car, then you can use a stock block with a cast crank and run it forever. But if you're hitting the road course, invest in a bullet proof Dart short block with a forged assembly. Expensive to start with, but cheaper in the long run.

Heads don't need to be anything special, either. Off the shelf Dart 195 heads will get you there.

Pick a cam with plenty of duration and lift. I use an off the shelf hydraulic roller from comp cams. Gotta get the gasses in and out effectivly. Lots of duration will allow you to run a higher static compression on pump gas.

For good street manners, plan on using EFI. That will allow a reasonable 800rpm idle and smooth low rpm cruising.

Stick with known parts and combinations. Don't go too far off the reservation. Lots of people have done exactly what you want to do - both pros and shadetree mechanics like me.

Trick Flow makes a good head casting. But their reputation has been tarnished by cheap valves, springs, and studs. One broken valve will destroy the engine. If you want to use them, buy them bare and add quality parts.
