347 or 351

go 351 the block is much stronger if you plan on making over 500 HP. if you are not gone to make over 500 go with the 347. Both need good heads and intake. 347 tend to run just a bit faster then the 351 in = build but I still like the 351 better just cuz of the block strength and extra deck height

The words strong running need to be cleared up also, power goals etc, engine life?
Whats your goals for the overall car!
The 351 block will last you longer! but a 347 will make great power and get the job done for alot less most of the time!
depending on the car you will have certain things that you have to buy that will take up the money you will spend on the stroker kit or parts! using the 351 block!
the engines almost same cu in, they will act worlds different!
just things to consider!

Just wondering if someone can explain why the power output is significantly different(if they are) between these 2 motors. Bore/stroke is pretty close to the same, so i would have expected similar power outputs. Thanks

You have to factor in things like piston speed , VE of each engine, and you other basic functions and flows! You can verywell make the same power for the two cu in engines but the power ranges will be totally different, if you had over laying charts of identical parts use in a 351 and the 347 the charts for hp for both will look like the hp and tq charts for one!
the engines hp outputs will be at different rpms than the other!
Also if you use the same exact heads etc the C/R will not be the same nessiceraly, that will also vary hp/tq output!
there cant be an exact answer to ur question with out some visual comparison like flow charts dyno results etc!!!
