Default Newbie Header question.

Hi guys i just bought myself a set of used long tube 351w hooker swap headders. I have 2 questions if i may since these are not new so i don't know if this is right.

Some of the primary tubes can be removed. also the flange for the headder is not one piece. Its split in some spots.

Is it surpose to be that way. If so y? Are your surpose to weld the tubes that can pull out once installed? Sry for the newbie question.

Second they came with like i'd say a 1/4 steel gasket. Will my stock headder bolts work? Or do i need a longer set?
I hope someone can chime in. I hope i didn't buy a bunk set of headders.
Will any xpipe bolt up to these headders as well?>

they are made that way to help with install of them DONT WELD THEM.. does the 1/4 plate have any extra holes in it? they do that when you run the bigger tube headers to change the bolt pattern to the make more room for the bigger tubes and make getting to the bolts easier. and more then likely you will need to make your own X pipe so it will fit on the collectors or mod the thing up to have ball type ends. I just made ours so it just slides up on the headers then put a band clamp on it it comes on and off in like 10 mins.

thx for the quick reply. Having the tubes slide out like that does that make a spot for exhaust to leak out?
Do you have a pic of your xpipe and the clamp. Did you cut off the triangle plate/flange where it looks like exhaust bolts up to?
As for the 1/4 plate i'll look at it more closely. So what your saying is the plate would bolt to the head and then the headder would bolt to plate? Do you need to run a gasket still? Sry for all the ?'s i'm learning

with the tubes that slide out most of the time they have a small clamp or the end of tube has a place to put a small bolt to help them seal up.
The headers I had cut the sealing ball type flange off and welded a pipe on and then just slide The X pipe over the end of the headers clamped with band clamp. that was the old set up so I have no Pics. it is now a turbo car and has only one down pipe the X now just slides up on the down pipe and the other side is just capped off same set up just one pipe to hit.
Yes the plate would mount like you said as far as gaskets that depends on how good of shape every thing is in..

thx you very much for your help. Hmm i checked out and i don't have anything that came with the headders to help pinch it shut. I'll have to figure something up. I gather a worm type clamp would not provide enough force lol.
Again thx u very much.

Hey uedlose. I've been trying to search or find a replacement for the clamps that would be around the header slip joints. Do you know where u can buy some or a good suitable replacement.
Also i've tested fitted the headers w/ the gasket. You were right but you need special bolts for it don't u? If so do u know where you could purchase those by any chance?
Hope u can help again. Thx.

Worm clamp may work it is worth a try. you may want to call hooker and talk with them for your needs if thats who made them..

I use Hooker Super Comps on mine with no problems. On the tubes with the slip fit joints, use a good coat of anti seeze on them. This makes them slid together easier, and after a few good heat cycles, forms a gasket like seal. No leaks.
