Post 351 swap in to 95 gt with gt40p heads

First sorry for the long post, but could use some help.

I just picked up a 351 roller short block with forged internals from a I think 95 f150 that has dished pistons, and ARP every were. I have a set of GT40P heads to put on after I bore the bolt holes out for the 1/2" ARP bolt. I did not get the heads that wee on it, and wounder if I should instead of spending the mony on the GT40's. I have a E303 cam also, and I have the GT40 full intake for the 351. Still need the distributor and headers. Can any one give me some good advise that will not brake the bank. The heads that were on the 351 are being sold for $200, and to make the GT heads work will run me about $240.

P.S. Thanks for the help.

What heads were on it? you can get a distributor for a 92 f150 with tfi remote mounted ignition module instead of a 400$ msd dist!

if the ecam is all you have use it especially with the gt head they peak at about .500 lift anyway!

you have to get a set of headers for it also the 5.0 headers usually wont clear the steering arm!

there is a 5.8l mustang swap kit from summit comes with pickup, pan and dipstick! around 160$

thats about all i can help with! unless you hvae money to play with!

I called up TMS (The Mustang Shop) here in Washington and he told me to do the same use the gt40 heads and ecam. I found the headers for a cobra R on summit that should fit just right with the gt40 heads, and the FMS oil pan kit, flywheel, harmonic balencer, and I found a distributor for a cobra R on Ebay under $100.

I just dont know now what tunning methed I should use. TMS said it should be plug and play form the 5.0GT then go from their, but I thought about bumping it to the 5.0 cobra comp and injectors for starters.

I 351 also has dished pistons so I tought that I might whant to change to flat-tops but not for shure on that yet.

All I realy what is to get the engine to a cobra R status of around 300hp 369tq at least.

Thanks for the Help, and If you have any more input I would love to here it.

well i wouldnt tear a perfectly good engine down just to change out the pistons! with the right h/c/i you could get close to your goal, cost money though!

the gt`s and e cam arent gonna get you close i dont think!

a good flowing topend on a 351 with a good fuel setup can get you there or knocking on hte doorstep!

Sounds good.
I think I will leave the dish pistons in for if I force air in to her latter on. I think I'm going to get the AEM comp and run 24 or 30 pound injectors. I aready have a 70mm TB on it, a bigger intank pump, and I am getting a after marcet fuel rails for it. so I should be good with fuel and air.

So diferant question.

I am a left right driver more than the strip, so I found a 99 IRS for 450 with new half axles, but its the 28 spline. I know My handling will be alot better, but is it worth it with only the 28 spline or should I hold out and fined a 01-04 IRS with the 31 sline to handle my new engine and the posible power she could have?

Well I went against the IRS, I will say with the live ax. I pulled the oil pan on the 351 and found out that it is just stock internals and when I checked the rod caps #3 and #7 had a small gouged in the bearing but not in the crank, and I found a nasty ding on the #7 crank counter weight. It looks like I will be getting some new bearings, and have that crank turned, so I might go with flat top pistons any way. The engine was rebuilt very resistantly just not a good job of it.

what heads? do u have straight plug heads, if so the only fix is the correct headers, what heads and headers are u currently using? fyi u cant use 5.0L headers if u done that, has to be 351 headers for a fox swap.

most of the heads out there are angle plug meaning the plugs on pass heads point forward, and driver heads point back.

brain fart, is it ur egr piping touching the plug?

No EGR pipe, But the headers I ordered were for the 95 Mustang GT 351 setup from Summit. I even set my stock headers up next to them and the stock sit out farther than these Hooker headers. These Hookers were the only headers I found for the 351 in SN 95 Mustang. I will check the part number to see if they are the same as the FOX, but they tuck up really close to the heads, and yes they are angel plug heads. I am going to take my Bosch plugs back and check to see if they are just to long, but they look normal. Yes they are the straight plug GT40P heads. Any Ideas?
