Default Need Some Quick Bellhousing Help.

Hey guys. I need some help I order a bell housing from summit and its the wrong one and i'm in need of returning it for the correct one.
Here is my questions summit tells me i can only get the big bell housing.
I'm trying to mate up my c5 trans to my 351w. But they only sell the bell housing in the large one. Now my question is can i use this? Will my headders hit the bell housing? I'm using hooker header super comp's long tubes.
I'm hoping someone can help me fast as i'm in need to return my wrong one for the correct one. Summit could not answer my question if the big bell housing will interfer with my headders.

Vehicle is 1990 mustang. 351 windsor. Trans c5

OK lets get this worked out. What tooth flex plate do you have?? If you have a C5 trans then it will have a case fill dipstick right.. I dont understand Summit telling you that you have to run a big bell which is the 164 tooth flex plate you can run either one but you have to have the correct flex for the bell.. Just get a 157 tooth flex and a small bell 302/351 for a C4 and there you go it really is that easy. Make sure the flex is a 28oz balance that the 351 is no big deal. the C4 bells bolt to the C5. do yourself a favor and run the small bell you will be much happier with the room you have.. Are you looking for a SFI bell? or just a stocker? and if you are telling them it is a C5 they probably dont have a clue what the heck you are talking of ask for C4 stuff.. If you are just looking for a stock bell 157 tooth I may have one stashed away I would take $50 + shipping for I dont think I have any bigs left all but the one I run. I also think your headers will work with both I have 2 friends that have run them with big bell C4s but like I said the small is SOOOOO much easier to work around it is amazing.. Also what converter are you running? that makes a difference to what flex you can use also..

Hi thx for the response. First my c5 is a pan fed.i've been told its rare. Anyways i did order a c4 bellhousing and got one for a case fed transmission. I then phoned summit and asked for a c4 bell housing for a pan feed. I told them the bell housing bolts to the case and not with the pump. Then the tech was like u need a large bell housing thats all that will work. Second the one they have is not sfi approved.

Exactly what you said is what i have been trying to do. Run a small bell with 157. But for some reason i'm having a bitch of a time getting one.

As for convertor i don't have anything yet short of waiting till i know what i'm going to run for sure. Can anyone send me a link to the proper bell housing or part number so i can just give it to summit and tell them thats what i want. lol

OK first off I have never seen a C5 pan fill trans and I have seen and touched 100s of C4 BUT I have been wrong before. I would like to see the part number on the side of the trans.get that for me it is the long one down the side. that being said the case fill bells will bolt to the pan fill trans you will need to get longer front pump bolts. this is how the bell is held on the trans with the case fill trans instead of the bolts gone into the outer part of the case. It will work It will look strange but it works. been there done that. then that means unless you buy a new flex plate you will be needing a big bell 164 tooth. please get me that part number on the side of the case so I can check this out.

Any thoughts you may have are welcome. Thx for the help also.

Also note the front band adjustor is fine thread. Pan is a deep about 2". Original bell housing was 7" deep.

opps sorry i don't know how to make a link. Put its a performance automatic bell housing said to work with 157t and 164t , also will work on case or pan fill trans? Any experience with them? any good.

Looks like I may have learned something today with that pic. of the trans that will be the first one I have ever seen bar none. and like I said I have seen and touched 100s of C4. But I still need to run some numbers.Thanks..

As for the bell I would trust any thing PA makes they have nice stuff. Like I said before if you dont want to use a large bell the stock small bell works or if you dont want to choke up the money for the SFI. But it you are gone to make the power down the road you will need the SFI anyway..
