need a little help on a 351 build/swap

If you have a windsor then it will bolt up newer than a 65 i believe cant remember the year they swapped the 5 to 6 bolt bellhousing!
The oil pan, pickup tube, Distributor, headers, mounts, balancer, flywheel, heads, cam, intake............ it adds up quick unless you build a used parts engine, there will be some things you cant get used. Pushrods, rockers, timing chain, Gaskets, catch my drift?

i understand not 500 but how 3000? i have the hood, a complete motor, carb.
i need headers, flywheel, intake. i could feasibly drop my 351 in the way it sits. and sell my 302 and buy heads and cam. thats an alternative i never considered. my motor now has the truck cam and i really dont mind it much. but it would be nice for a few more rpm.
i cant do anything till winter right now its my dd. come winter it will be parked. also i have a trans guy that will go my trans. i understand i have the older t-5 84 i do believe. can it be converted to the wc style? or should i look for a wc style instead.

Headers are going to cost you a few hundred, the intake will be atleast 2-300, you will still need the foxbody pan conversion kit, which is another $260, and the accessory kit (which I dont have a price for). Then the flywheel, which is ~$200 or more for a good piece. Now lets talk about internal upgrades... You will need a new oil pump. You should change the timing chain, and if you are putting a new cam in, new lifters would be a great idea! Swapping over the heads will require you to put new pushrods in, which will likely cost you about $80-$100. While you are in there, might be a good idea to get rid of the stamped steel rockers...
Can you see the dollar signs adding up?
The NWC transmission will likely break on you, and at the worst possible time. You cannot convert the NWC to WC specs, the bearing locations for the cluster gear are not the same. So add another $1000 to your build right off the bat just to upgrade to an OK transmission.
I still stick by my suggestion of just getting a supercharger. You have alot of good components in your build. I am trying to keep you from making a huge mistake. Buying a used S/C kit will line you up to make some great HP numbers. And in the future, should you come into the money, you can upgrade the heads on the car for an even bigger leap in HP.
The main point I am trying to make here is that you are looking at spending LESS money by putting a S/C on your car, then you would by swapping in a 351w.
S/C 302 = more power, less cost.
351w swap =More cost, Less power.
I'll leave you with this... and I wish you luck. I hope you make the right choice.

do big valves in gt40p heads wouldnt port them cuz it messes with the race style design get good cam intake make your own brackets for ac power steering from junk in your yard, thats wat i did. and i believe the newer 351w used the same balance as the h.o. 5.0 so use that stuff. pretty cheap swap for me makes good power

357, trick flow intake, comp cams extreme energy xe274h, 24lb inj, afr185's with bolt down 1.6 rockers, BBk 1 5/8 shorties, 80mm mass, 75mm TB, K&N, stock oil pump regular drive pullies (not underdrive), STOCK A9P eec= 425hp / 396 tq for $5500.00. with a set of GT-40 Y303 aluminum heads (FOR SALE by the way) it made 390/ 360... These are 2004 numbers but the prices havn't gone up that much. its a little quirky with the 5 speed but a good tune would help that I'm sure.

ford racing makes a bracket kit to hang your 302 accessories on a 351, cost around 100 I think ( it's been 7 years since I did this so bet on some inflation), the flywheel is 250, whatever heads you use, go to summit and get a pushrod length checker...(cheap insurance) I found out the hard way. remember, 351's take 1/2" head bolts not 7/16, just use a stock oil pump; if your not racing professionally, it's a waste to buy anything else, new water pump is a good idea, 302/351 are the same dimentionally, but get the correct rotation for your year of block, Distributor's ARE DIFFERENT, use the origional if its in good shape. Oh, and you can get a rebuilt t-5 for 7 or 800 of ebay it'll hold a 400hp 351 no problem as long as you don't dump the clutch at 5000 rpm with drag slicks!!! I'm pretty hard on my stock t-5 and its still going strong.... anything else you can think of just ask....if your interested in the heads send me a private message....I make ya a good deal!
