what auto transmission for 351w.
hey guys,
i was wondering on what tranny to look into. I need an auto transmission, but which one. i would like to run a redneck performance c4 transmission suitable to handle 650 hp (as they claim). i will be running a 351w, 400 rwhp. if i put a c4 into this will i have to change the length of the driveshaft?
if i do go with a c4 from redneck performance, i will get a full manual reverse valve body with a transbrake and a deep dish pan and a nice stall (3000-3500 based on my mods). but tahts will be about 1200 and i dont have that money right now, as i am working on a engine and rear end and all my suspension. maybe next summer, but until then what could i use?
thanks all.

RE: what auto transmission for 351w.
If this is at all a street car I would go AOD. My Cornwell tool dealer has an old 32 IIRC ford with a modded 351w in front of a STOCK (freshly rebuilt, he rebuilds and works over AODs) AOD, the car has ran great for 15,000 miles and he's not the kind of guy with a light foot. He's pushing the limits of his tranny but it can be built up to withstand insane amounts of power. If this is going to be mainly a track car go with the C4, you won't need the OD band and you'll like the fact that the torque converter doesn't lock up in third gear. Good luck!

If its not a street car you might want to look into a powerglide. Its a chevy 2 speed auto that can be built very strong for very little money. They make bellhousings that bolt onto small block fords.
