2004 mustang saleen supercharged
ive been doing some research on the saleen thats stated on the subject and cant come up with accurate hp ratings. later today i will post some pics of the saleen because ima go test drive it. i seen it in a auto guide and they didnt post enough info. i called the delearship and some guy with no mustang knowledge told me it was a supercharged saleen. when i ask him how many valves it has, he said he didnt know. so im going down there today and check it out myself. i know its a 16 valve [incase some smart mouth], just testing the guy. so i guess what im asking is how much hp does it have stock? it appears stock and prob. the only mods done to it were some 20" DD axis wheels with nitto wrapped around them, sub woofer with amps, and a alpine head unit[stated in the autoguide]. im a Cobra03-04 guy and cant possibly find within 50 miles of my home without it being a private seller. the price on the saleen is 30k and im currently working 2 jobs and i got a quote for insurance purposes. so before i go out there and throw my life away for 6-7 years what do you guys think i should do?
one last thing [this is off topic] does anybody know what year and how much hp the cobra saleen has? not sure if its supercharged or not. but it'll prob b a sweet deal knowing it has the dohc heads.

There are several types of Saleens... S281, S281 S/C and the S281Extreme... the regular S281 just has really a bodykit and a tune... the 281 s/c is blown, around 375bhp I believe... give or take... then the S281E which has a built motor with a blower and puts out around 450hp I believe....
The s281 supercharged motor, is a stock 2v interior motor, with the stock tranny - basically youre buying a blown GT with suspension and the saleen body kit... it'd be cheaper to buy a 04' GT and put a KB and build the suspension on it... and you will have a faster car... unless you're absolutly sold on the saleen... which can be a pain to tune im told....
Unless it's a S281 Extreme I wouldn't be buying it for 30k.. You said you can't find a 03-04 Cobra within 50miles without it being a private seller... what's wrong with a private seller, you will normally get a better price, and you can also gauge who has been driving this car for however long... I would actually advise a private seller - just make sure you get it checked out by a mechanic....

well private sellers will not finance the car like a dealership would. Private sellers ask for the whole amount all in one. having limited credit history will hurt to get an auto loan, but having two jobs and making fairly good cash every month will also be a boost to get financed. well i guess my ? to you kazp is why do the 2004 saleen s281 sc cost more than the 04 Cobra. Also does the saleen have 415 ft/lbs of torque?

im with kazp... unless its the Extreme i think its a waste of money.... Find a Dealer 200miles away and takea drive!!! you can EASILY find 03 cobras for that price lol...... Just take a day off and drive to look at one..... Dont get anxious and do something that you will regret..........

the saleen is more money for less of a car, yes - they're a bit more rare... but, your paying more for less of a car.... unless its a S281E... you really are paying for the name more then anything - brand new they're 40-50+ thousand... I still wouldn't buy a saleen personally... For all the limited production it's not going to mean much... I think for the limited production to mean much the car has to come from Ford... like the Shelby, SVT productions, BOSS (if it ever comes out), etc.,All you're buying is a blown GT with a body kit.... however, the S197 Saleens are sexy. lol
I would try capitalone auto financing.. they approve you for a certain amount and give you a blank check to use up to that amt this way you can give the private party that check...

well i didnt pay but 19500 for mine and the insurance aint bad at all or maybe i would have got a cobra but the insurance will kill you and im 21 sooo either way your getting a good car and everyone has there own opinion

You're correct. You know when I went from my GT to a Cobra, my insurance went down?? lol and im 22 (21 at the time)....
Oh a side note; if you wreck a saleen - you get reimbursed for a GT, because insurance doesn't recognize the saleen.... unless you tell them to; and voila, you now aren't saving anything for insurance....

Im just curious which one you have... I am thinking the one with the blower...
