Default Mustang II IFS

I am rebuilding my 69 fastback and I want to upgrade the front brakes and suspension so I thoought this would be a good all in one package. As I am also looking to put in a 5.0 EFI it would also allow more room in the engine bay. I was wondering if it was a good idea or not. I am new a this so I am looking for the advice from more seasoned entusiasts.

Thanks,
Wade

In My Humble Opinion or IMHO the only reason to install a mustang II system is to eliminate the shock towers in order to make room for a monster sized motor. The Mustang II set up is much more harsh than the original type. When it comes to brakes and handling I have found this formula leaves me very happy with the suspension. All these modifications replace the original equeptment with newer aftermarket replacement while maintaing the same basic configuration.

Performance alignment
UCA drop
Roller spring perches
Adjustable strut rods
1" sway bar
Stock springs with performance shocks like KBY
Granada Disc brakes

With these upgrades you still have the option of upgrading now or later to R&P steering if you so desire.

I agree with DazeCars, however in my friends case he basically had no front end so we went with the Mustang II instead of going back original (sorry guys). This car should have been crushed so you won't morn too much. It has been a big job but I think it will be sweet.

In the past couple of years, a lot of developments from Open track racing have rejuvenated the Classic Stang front suspension. It is much superior to the MII ront end and generally cheaper too. Previously the MII had the advantage of Discsand R&P to older stang dident have.
I agree with Dazecars, though would add, the Articulated strut rods can wait till the pocket book can fit them, and I would encourage the use of GT or Progressive springs, especially over 600-620lb springs. Though in the heavier 70's Stangs, they do have their placedo have their place.

I'd do TCP's front coil over setup before I did a MII front end, it lets you take huge advantage of the leverage of that long lower control arm. Even just some good springs shocks with a negetive wedge spacer and lowering stock upper control arms will produce an EXCELLENT handling Mustang, and that's not even going to aftermarket control arms. MII has it's place like was said, when the shock towers have to be cut out in order to make room for a large engine.

id only do the mustang 2 if it was a drag only car it kills the handling of the car.a 69 engine bay is huge you can shove a 460 in there easy. 67mustang302 i dont like tcp top mount looks kinda weak to me.i love global west coilovers they are worth the money. if i had to notch the shock towers id use http://www.rrs-online.com/ coilovers and there shock tower notching kit.but you dont have to touch the shock towers for a little 302. look at tarafields car hes got a 460 in a 68 with out touching the shock towers theres more room then you think.

I don't like cutting on my car anywhere if I can avoid it. I figure I'll go with the wedge spacer drop kit, then maybe switch over to tubular control arms, but I doubt I'll spend the money to go to a coil over.

I am not really looking for performance handling since this car will be more of a cruiser. I was wondering about the everyday performance and feel of the MII system. I will look into the alternatives you guys brought up.
