I was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this??
My car is a 2007 and I live in Ohio where the temperatures have gotten pretty cold recently. My car sits outside (no garage) and is my daily driver. In the mornings I've noticed the car feeling really slugish like it doesn't want to move and only really noticed it on the really cold mornings(teens or 20s) when I go to back up it is hard to get moving and I have to gas it to get it to move. Then once I back up it almost stops on it's own. As I drive it tends to "free up" until it is no longer noticable.
This morning was an exception where it took almost my whole ride to work (@ .5 hour) to free up. I've tried pulling up and down on the e-brake several times but that didn't seem to have any affect. Also during my ride into work I started putting 2 and 2 together and realized my gas mileage has really dropped recently as well and I'm wondering if the brakes are riding and could be the cause of both problems.
I took it into the dealership this morning to have them look over the brakes. I'll see what they have to say.
Anybody else experience anything like this?

Your emergency brake cable is getting moisture inside and freezing... it's a known problem. Take your car to the dealer and have them fix it under warranty. There is a TSB on the fix
I just got it back from the dealership and they said they checked out the brakes and of course everything looked good. I know I'm not off my rocker so I'm going to look into that TSB. I thought there used to be a menu option for recalls and tsb's on this site but I can't find it anymore. Who knows where I find that info??
Well I googled for tsb's and found TSB 06-05-04 for freezing parking brake.
"Some 2005-2006 Mustangs built prior to 10/1/2005
may exhibit park brake cables that freeze in cold
weather due to water intrusion, and subsequently
not release."
I had the same problem a few years ago. The situation you described was mine, almost exactly. I took it to the stealership and they had it for a week (not sure if there was a tsb for it yet) and all is good now. I would say that just because they (Ford) know the problem exists doesn't mean that they fixed it. If I remember correctly, there is a rubber boot covering the cable and it was split open. I would check that first...def. do not drive until you git it figured out though. Good luck
It happened to me too, a few weeks ago it kept stalling when backing up and then once i got it going it seemed fine but when i stopped a few mintues later the right rear brake was really hot and smelled like it was burning, i drove home and it seemed to go away and i stopped using the e-brake and now i keep it in 1st when parking and havent had a prolem yet.
I had this same problem over 38 years ago on my 71 Roadrunner. I've also had the same thing happen on my antique 35 Dodge 15 years ago(a brake drum on the back of the transmission)so it doesn't matter how old or new the car is. All you need is a little water or slush to get in the cable and the emergency brake will freeze. I learned not to use the emergency brake and just leave the car in gear when the temp. gets below freezing. Driving the car before the emergency brake releases can cause damage to the rear brakes.

Thanks for finding that thread. I called the dealership back and he said they checked the e-brake cable and everything looked ok. His comment to the tsb was that it wasn't for the '07 because Ford obviously made a production change to fix that problem.
I guess I'll do what the other owner(s) did and if it happens again, stop the car and call roadside assistance and have them tow it in. He left it up to me if I wanted to leave it overnight tonight and we are supposed to get some freezing rain/snow so I might drive it there in the crap and leave it there for them overnight if it's not too bad. We'll see.......
