Default I can't completely fill up my gas tank? (I searched)

I went to fill up my mustang today and after only a few gallons the pump clicked off. Since I only had about an eighth of a tank left I knew it wasn't full yet and after checking the dash it confirmed I was right at the 1/2 full mark. I tried to fill it up more, but the gas actually started to spill around the gas cap. Luckily i caught it fast enough so I didn't get any on my paint. I tried searching for this but the search feature excludes the term "gas" because its too common. Im hoping there's an easy fix for this. Thanks, David

i have trouble filling up sometimes. the pump will not let me fill anymore even though the tank is obviously not full. i have to reposition the pump different ways to get it to start filling again. i'm guessing the design of the gas inlet on our cars is not very friendly to all pumps. its happened at different locations as well so its not any particular pump or station that is causing this. its not a big deal for me personally but it does get a bit annoying when it does happen.

Try searching for "fuel tank filling" You will get 10 pages of results.
Here's one http://mustangforums.com/forum/gener...ank-issue.html

Here's a link for the TSB on that issue http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...ml#post1062654

Note: Ford tried to fix this issue in 06 or 07 but still some problems.

Hope this helps, Vince

Sorry I should've searched for that phrase. Thanks for those ideas and resources. While Im under the miles for my warranty to be in affect my cars too old so I guess Ill just try different pumps and fiddle with it. Has anyone who replaced their filler neck seen a difference?

Check the TSB's in the sticky. There's one on filling issues. With the search, you'll find the few tricks there are to get around some of the problems.

Understand the four modes of the fuel guage
before you use that to indicate fuel level.
Search again as this has been covered 1000s
of times before.
Take her back to the stealership, turn the nozzle
upside down while fueling (key off), or live with it...

Filler neck replacement is not the whole problem.
Its partly the roller coaster style 1" filler hose from
the fill pint to the tank. Crawl under her and you
will clearly see the problem.
Its the saddle bag style fuel tank thats screwing
with you...
