The Shaker 500 is a 6 speaker system with 2 subs and not the best to be going with. If you're looking to upgrade, there are better HU's and speakers to be had. IMO, the Shaker 500 isn't a BAD unit, but for you, you're looking at some challenge that would be better put toward a nicer unit.
The shi**er 500 has all the low bass EQed out of the standard four speaker set-up you have.
Plus the 'module' has to be configured by the dealer.
Its not plug n play.
With the 500, you can have 6 CD stuck in it as well....
They are not known for their reliablilty.
Replace c*ap with cr*p, why?

I agree with these guys. I have the Shaker 500 but if I were going to go through the trouble of replacing it, I would definately get a much better system.
If you are worried about your budget, try checking out sales at your local audio stores or even Craigslist or eBay.
I got a Kicker Basstube with amp for $50.00 off of eBay last year. I took it to a local audio shop to test it to make sure it was OK and they told me I got a great deal. That sub usually sells for $300.00.
I would replace the HU with a Kenwood or Pioneer.
