wow, quite a car for a 16th B-day - congrats!!
when i turned 18, i got a ragged out 1980 Toyota Corolla for $800...my next 2 cars were not much better.
like others said, no lie about the power of a CAI and tune...that's where to start. best $550 i have spent for performance.

Man, when i was 16 i had a 1984 dodge aries with a vinyl top and 4 cylinder with about 62 horsepower and a tailwind. Granted i was making 3.35 an hour and i bought the car myself and loved it like nothing else. I would sit for hours sitting in it listening to the fm radio, cause it had nothing else and i couldnt have been happier. the only mod i was worried about was enough money for gas to go see my girlfriend.

Get some time and experience behind the wheel, get to know your car well, and then worry about upping the ante. I'd say give it six months or a year.

In the meantime, consider doing some appearence mods to make the car truly yours.

Sequential tailights are cool and popular

A GT takeoff muffler can be found for a song and sounds better than the V6 unit.

For a 'vert, a CDC lightbar is a huge styling plus (after you've seen one, Mustang 'verts without look positively nekkid)

There's lots of trim items you can add both inside and out to modify things to your own taste

Wider wheels/tires from GT takeoffs can be found pretty cheap, and increase performance and safety

It looks like you've already got a cool aftermarket hood on there, I'd consider picking up a more aggressive looking chin spoiler/splitter to complete the look

Congrats on the new car man! And happy birthday!
I would definitely look into some visual mods first. You can go to americanmuscle.com and get some cheap mods that look great (they also have free shipping). You should look into getting some taillight covers and maybe a blackout panel for that retro look. Nice car...dont push it though. Be careful and have fun!

Reading these other posts got me thinking, I HATE MY PARENTS. Hey OP can I have yours? For my 16th they let me buy a POS from them. An 88 Mercur_ Tracep. The Y was missing on the hatch lid and a piece of the R was also broken off. I wish that was the only thing wrong with it. They did teach me a valuble lesson though... Be careful of 'good deals', no matter who selling it.
