Default rear end question?

i just had a quick question about the difference between the 7.5 rear end and the 8.8 rear end? im guessing that its bigger just cuz of the numbers but wut doesthe rear endsdo and would there be much of a benefit to switch to the 8.8? im a newb so pardon me for my dumb questions but i figured that the best way to learn is to ask.

Default RE: rear end question?

8.8s have the tlok stock, people swap it because it is "stronger" but ive broken one with just 280ish rwhp (stock mach 1) within 5k, and one of my friends had to get it rebuilt about every 30k

the number is the size of the pinion gear, so, is what you would want, you would want a set of 4.10 gears for the 7.5 from american muscle and a 7.5" detroit true trac and TA rear girdle from drivetrainspecialists.com and you will never have to open your rear up again

mpsautosalvage.com also has used 3.73s, normally i dont recomend them, but for $50, there worth it, theres nothing wrong with used gears either, the only gears that will whine when installed properly are ones that are cut straight, stangmods.com also has a tlok but i dont recomend them unless maybe a stock or bolt on auto, or if money is tight

Default RE: rear end question?

not really

direct link for true trac
http://www.drivetrainspecialists.com...ruetrac-1.html

TA rear girdle
http://www.drivetrainspecialists.com.../girdle-1.html

Bering kit, also needed
http://americanmuscle.com/rearendrebuild1.html

----------anything from here down is not needed but recomended----------
new gears you can get these (you dont need them for a stronger rear but it just makes sense to have them put in)
http://americanmuscle.com/v6gears.html

By the way, discount code for americanmuscle.com is "mustangboards"

or you can get used 3.73s from here for $50, there is nothing wrong with used gears if the teeth are fine
http://mpsautosalvage.com/products/list.cfm?TypeID=85

if you do gears then you need a tuner to correct the speedo, if you dont have on I recomend an SCT from here
http://www.vmptuning.com/store/index.php?

scroll down to the bottom of this page
http://www.3.8mustang.com/forum/showthread.php?t=183112

that is a 7.5" FFRP tlok with 212 rw/ft.lbs of torque and drag radials on a 4k clutch drop, with a TA rear girdle

You will also need a panhard bar relocation bracket if you go with a girdle. The TA and LPW girdles for our cars will not clear it without the bracket. Powerhouse and BMR both make relocation brackets.
