PH Driveshafts for V6 S197s
There's a group buy for some PH driveshafts at the 4.0 Collective site.
It's at five now, but there's an even better price break at 10. I tried posting a link, but it just posted a bunch of asterisks instead.
Just FYI, if any of you want to get in on it.

Hi,
I have seen rubbing issues with a 4.0" diameter driveshaft. There is a company making 3.5" (stock diameter) in aluminum and steel, that fit much better. They are also balanced at a much high rpm than most aftermarket companies. Check them out at www.dyntotech.com, they make many high performance driveshafts. They are however more expensive, but you get what you pay for. They want $475 for steel (26lbs) and $650 for aluminum (17lbs).

This rubbing thing has already been beaten to death like so many other dead horses. I was concerned about it too until I found out otherwise. I'm getting the PH driveshaft.

Ok, that's cool.
I figured I may give some people an option, if they choose the stock outside diameter driveshaft. Congrats on savings money for the group of members involved.
Good luck with the purchase.

I'm a long time Mustang owner (4 dating back to 1973) but the new one I just got (2006 V-6 automatic) has developed an annoying scraping sound on cold start up much like you describe that the dealer hears but does not have a cure.
This scraping sound started at about the 12,000 interval and is worse the colder the outside temperature (below 30 degrees: scraping, above 30 degrees - a ticking sound), lasts for about a mile or so and follows the rpms of the engine.
When I first start the car, it's fine. Only when I put it in gear and let the car roll a few feet does this scraping/ticking sound start.
Does this sound like drive shaft? If so, how serious is it. The dealer tells me he's pretty sure it's OK to drive.
Thanks.

Do you have a stock exhaust? I had a problem where my custom exhaust was barely scraping the stock driveshaft. I'd only notice it when I hit a bump or accellerated really quickly.
I just cut a connector and adjusted the pipes out of the way of the driveshaft. My exhaust was all custom made, but the passenger side tubing followed the same route as the stock tubing.
Wouldn't hurt to put the car on a lift and look at the exhaust. You could DEFINITELY tell on mine. (the driveshaft was starting to wear a groove into the exhaust)
