Default Is 5th Gear Optional in a Manual Tranny???

My 05 V6 Manual apparently is unhappy with my driving style. While I was driving from Baltimore to Raleigh earlier this week, my car decided to randomly pop out of 5th gear. Mostly around 80 MPH. Just suddenly pop from 5th to nuetral. Has anyone else had this problem? I recently notice a "Boiling" sound when the car sits idle. It goes away when the clutch is pressed. Stealership says this is a normal gear sound. Is the popping out of 5th a "Normal" thing? This happen to anyone else?

the clutch noise is "normal" in that all of our cars have it, whether it is actually normal is up for debate. 5th gear popping out is definitely not normal and should be looked at for sure.

I frequent this board pretty regularly and haven't heard of anyone having problems with 5th gear popping out. The other noises are quite common, pretty much everyone has them. If the car is popping out of gear you need to take it in, that is not normal at all!

The boiling noise

Sounds like the throwout bearing in the clutch assimbly. does not hurt an thing just sounds anoing. will run like that for quite some time

Poping out of 5th gear is not normal. If you have the transmision pulled you just as well have them chk clutch wear and replace the throw out bearing

It sounds like a clutch problem to me. How many miles do you have?
