Default weighing options twin turbo vs cammed intercooled x-charger

Twin turbo on my second mustang a pony package vert stang would hit about 475 hp, I'm considering an x-charger that would do the same due to the sound consideration as I don't like how turbos sound.

This mustang is purely for fun so this thread is no pressure really and I have time to make a choice.

Here's the problem:

330 hp + 45 hp + 10 hp + 55 hp + 10hp

x-charger + ic + longtubes + cams heads + no cats

I'm 30 hp short of even the above most spartan turbo setup.

Any ideas how to close the gap? I don't like having downsides.

Tip of the Month, October: Do not buy the $730 Roush Exhaust which a Mangnaflow rep says costs to $117 make (polished, all ss), buy the $170 Roush Exhaust Tips estimated to cost $46 to make and weld them to another company's muffler. This also lets you choose how your car sounds.

if you want 475hp out of your v6, an xcharger just isnt the way to go.

once you p&p the heads, it will require an even smaller pulley to hit the same boost, and i think the "14psi" pulley is the smallest one you can run, which would only net you about 10-12psi after P&P which isnt going to get you near your 475hp goal.

chicane style intercooler fab job - 10 hp

high flow throttle body - 7 hp

light weight ds - 1.5 hp

My estimates are on the conservative side and using a 11psi target and crank hp for all measurements so I may not be entirely far off.

Agree with Fazm.

Also, I would go with a good single turbo kit. A properly sized turbo on the 4.0 will not lag. Theres a lot of myth around here on twins being superior. I personally like the PH kit, the PT61 it comes with makes great power, both up top and down low.

You will need to juice the X to get the rwhp you are after. I would just go turbo and call it a day.

Did Powerhouse make their own turbocharger from scratch or did they use a Garrett / Turbonetics / HKS turbo and make their own kit with it?

It's a Precision PT61 turbo, which is a modified Garrett. They spent a year of R&D on the kit on the street and at the track. The turbo unit itself, sizing it etc is only part of the development. Turbo positioning, tubing and associated components is the other part. They use stainless works for the tubing, which is very high quality stuff. I was lucky enough to get the first kit, which we then spent another year data logging and fine honing the tune for it.

Running more than 12 PSI is generally considered unsafe in supercharged applications. Running more would only be on a dedicated drag car or for those who are willing (which this car i'm driving is not (had too much of that)), I've seen at least one v6 blow an engine on 14 psi. Cams and heads are worth WAY more than running 2 extra psi. Mathematically speaking 2 PSI should only give between 15 and 23.5 hp but heads and came can give you between 53 and 63 hp and this gain is worth way more because it's a perfectly safe gain, not a slightly unsafe one in my view.
