OK y'all, I am new to this car customizing thing, i have done my harley, just not a car before. I am on my second stang, and the only thing I have done thus far is tint out my windows, and add rally striping.
I want to change out the muffler, thinking of staying with single, I heard changing to a cold air intake would be good, and maybe a race tuner. Suggestions on all the above would be great, also, what can I do myself, and what definitely needs to be done by a certified mechanic?

I'd suggest getting a c&l cai and tune from bama chips
I've got dual flowmaster american thunders tho you can just get a single (sounds great imo) cai is a super easy install, since i was doing duals brought mine to a muffler shop for that

I have dual exhaust on my car, and am still running with the stock bumper. You can get by just fine without doing any cutouts on your bumper.
-Though if you do want to have a cutout, the best way to go would be to buy a GT rear bumper. That will give you the secondary cutout for your exhaust pipe, and will look a lot better than altering your stock bumper.

Thanks killdar, did you have to cut out the rear bumper for the additional pipe?
Correct...
1+ on a CAI & Tune, I recommend BAMA just from experience but, there are other tuning companies out there. Going dual exhaust can be done yourself but, it's recommened to be done professionally...

Muffler swap is very easy and a good beginner project. You can go aftermarket or get a GT takeoff to save money. The Manual GT muffler is a flows a little better than the off an auto. A manual is p/n FI-7849-R.
A CAI w/o a tune is just a dress up item. And they sometimes end up requiring a tune anyway even when they say they won't. Get a CAI w/ tune to totlally wake up your car! The C&L is very nice but expensive and doesn't add any performance advantage - unless you plan to add forced induction later down the road. If you want to dress up the engine compartment the C&L is a nice upgrade. VMP Performance offers a CAI kit & tune package that keeps your stock intake hose and just upgrades the MAF housing. You'll save a hundred or so bucks since it omits the aluminum C&L tube. They also offer the same package with a GT take off muffler. You can get a better deal on the muffler though if you hunt around for it your self.
Another good begging mod is to upgrade to polyurethane sway bar bushings. If you don't have a rear sway bar then get one. GT take offs are a popular mod for front and rear.
Happy modding!
they cut it at the shop but your bumper does need to be cut
huh... Mine never got cut, nor did the shop recommend that I have it cut. It seems to be just fine as it is, maybe they hung my pipes a bit lower to compensate?

so your exhaust pipe just hangs out below the bumper? wierd, is your drivers side lower then the passenger, or ist there a big gap on the passenger side
