Remember Internet tunes and individual dyno tunes are two different things. Folks who develop Internet tunes have to make sure the tune is safe in any condition, elevation, etc. So some Internet tuners will run a little richer just to be safe.

When you get a specific dyno tune for your car, everything can be maximized. Though I am a huge fan of Doug's auto tune for the 5r55. I can't run his auto tune any more as I have a 4r70. Back when I was NA, I tested 3 tunes back to back at the track, his was 3/10ths quicker. So it worked for me.

Everyone has their favorite tuner, and you are good with any reputable tuner. Just my opinion, once you start boosting cars, get into serious racing, etc, I think a proper dyno tune is best.

To the OP: Any luck on datalogging your car? Innovative makes a nice wide band with some very cool features. A lot of S197 guys run it.

To those that have had rough dealings with Doug, that is unfortunate. I spoke to him last night on the phone, and he was his usual, laid back friendly self.

I e-mailed him on my yahoo account, no reply. Waited another 2 weeks and e-mailed him again, and till this day I have no received anything.

sorry for the rant as well.. not really relevant to this thread but you aren't the only one out there.
I don't want to sound like a smart@ss, but I would have called Doug on the phone rather than waiting 4 weeks for an emailed reply. Short of meeting face-to-face, it's hard to beat a telephone conversation to sort out issues.

Just got off the phone with Doug. He mentioned something, he said for some reason, a lot of his responses, and responses with tune files get stuck in peoples spam. Make sure you add his email to your allow lists.

He specifically said yahoo catches his emails alot in their spam filters.

While everyone has their bad days, you have to expect that as a business owner, if you do get short or rude with a customer, it may get around. It doesn't really matter if it's a rare occurrence or if you're super busy - if you piss the wrong person off you could lose a lot of business because of it. It isn't fair to Doug or any business owner, but that's the way it can be. Word of mouth is a big part of business, positive or negative.

That being said, Doug has almost entirely positive reviews otherwise. I myself have had nothing but good dealings with him - very fast and friendly service. Doug has gotten a lot of business from the opposite end of the spectrum - positive word of mouth.

In your first post, you say "a problem Doug has caused." Maybe your previous interactions with him had that same accusing tone and set him off. Also, like rygen said, if Doug is aware of your previous mishap with your X, he may be a little presumptuous that there really isn't a problem and that in fact, YOU are causing a problem (something installed wrong, going to a whack tuner, etc.). May not be true, but if I was him and knew about your previous wreck, I would probably assume the same thing.

Regardless, glad to hear the car seems to be running fine now. I think it would be worth it to get a custom dyno tune if you have that option. I know I would be on that like stink on sh!t if there was a reputable tuner within a 500 mile radius.

wow so glad i wasted my time reading this thread, did like the soup clip though. just goes to show the customer is always right unless you have a product that nobody else has. it takes 13 happy customers to make up for one unhappy. thats what is so great about the speed of communication today everybody expects everything to be answered and solved right now. oh and the best thing about text and posting is sarcasm works so great because you can always tell what TONE somebody is writing in. and if you saw it printed on the internet it MUST be true just ask any 13 year old.

By you writing that response you not only validate what is said, but also confirm that you have not read the entire thread. Since you are believing this thread and forming an opinion, you yourself are the 13 year old. To believe for a second that there was even an ounce of sarcasm involved in any of the conversation, you are either ignorant or just plain dumb. Thank you for giving me something to laugh at.
