The Mustang I just bought has a c&L intake does it need a tune?
First of all I'm new to the forum and have found some great information so far. I purchased an 06 mustang v6 yesterday and am picking it up today. Something I noticed when I looked under the hood at the dealership is that it already has a c&L intake. It also has a ford racing exhaust (single rear exit). My question is whether or not this air intake requires a tune and if there's anyway to tell if one has already been loaded into the engine computer. I have done a small amount of research about this intake and it seems to be pretty good, but any additional information that anyone knows and is willing to share would be great. Thanks, David

Have the dealership service guys confirm if an aftermarket tune is in place.
Another issue is that if the dealership knows nothing about the car, exactly WHAT tune is in place? Is it tuned for 89 octane fuel? 91? 93?
Without the tuner included you also have no way to return it to stock should you ever wish to change out the C&L short of paying a dealer to reprogram the ECU.
That being said, the C&L IS a very good intake on the 4.0L. I had several N/A intakes on my car while I was waiting for the X-Charger to be released, and the C&L was the best, no question at all.
the c&l cai does require a tune. if if it was not then it wouldnt idle. more than likely a 93 tune. if you put a lower grade gas in and it dont run right......then you will know.
I'm sorry guys, but I got mixed up. Although I bought it yesterday i picked it up today and realized that it actually has a S&B intake. So I have basically the same question except its a different intake now. Also does anyone have any information on the S&B? It runs great with it but obviously I never drove it before it was installed. Thanks, David

All CAI's really dont add anything by themselves, the tuning is the key to using what a CAI has to add.
Mine is not that much better than yours. I have a MMR. It greatly improved my performance. Next i am getting a sct tuner. unless i hit the lottery and then i will pay off my car and get a x-charger. lol

I too thought I had better performance when I put on my K & N before my SCT with Breenspeed custom tunes arrived. After running the 93 oct. tuning, the stock performance feels like a VW bug.
