As posted numerous times earlier, the on-board is typically 1-2 MPG generous. Plus, if that wasn't a gas pump-to-gas pump average (meaning you hit "reset" while on the highway) then 33 per the on-board could occur but doesn't truly represent your cars average. What gears do you have? I've seen a few GT's here that claim 28 MPG with 3.33's. And I've even hand-calculated 26.0 MPG (and a few tenths) on a few occasions, pump-to-pump, with my 3.55's when cruising at no more than 65 MPH the entire trip.

Default I question it as well

I absolutely question that readout as well - as for the gears, its stock, so whatever it came out of the factory with. We've not yet hand calculated it, but given how long I can drive it vs. how long my Jaguar which accurately got 22 mph would go on a single tank of gas (and I buy my gas at the same place every week, so its not due to different gas), Its getting WAY better than my 3.0 Jag did - but it was AWD too.

I haven't hit the reset button in over three tanks of gas - I thought that might be the thing. After a weekend in Ft. Worth and Dallas though, its at 25 mpg, and I'm resisting the urge to hit the reset. I do keep my foot out of it, and I have blue haired ladies in their Lincoln Town Cars and Grand Marquis flipping me off on the highway when they pass me...

Okay, maybe not that last part, about the flippin' the bird... LOL

Now I'm gonna have to take a pic of the readout - annnnd hand calculate it, because while its fun to BS about it, I estimate its closer to 28ish when I drive it - as opposed to my husband.

Only had the car 10 days but have 1300 + kms (just over 800 mles) on it already and so far I'm only getting an avg of 16.8 mpg. All my driving has pretty much been in the city.

Default Regardless of what it is in mine

Regardless of the true MPG on mine - I do know it gets phenomenal gas mileage, be it 26-28 or the surely-something-wrong-with-my-readout 33 mpg. BUT my driving is almost entirely open highway, cruise control set on 60-65 mph, and I rarely, rarely run around town on my lunch hour - I usually walk to wherever I'm going. Again, its just my way of gouging the oil companies back a little bit. It is showing a steady readout of 25.6 right now, and that's after a weekend of running around I-35, 635, and US hwy 75 - all in the DFW,Texas area, and anyone familiar with DFW knows all three of those highways have nasty traffic snarls - so, bottom line, I am pleasantly surprised with my 06 GT - I expected 15mph-ish.

I am now trying to talk my mother into a Mustang, V6 - but she she keeps waffling back and forth - she can't decide between a Mustang or a Lincoln. *eyeroll* Why get old before your time, ey?

FYI, the V6's typically do better by roughly and only 2-4 MPG. Very surprising, considering...

Tell your mom to get a GT. It's just SO much more fun, no matter how old you are. I'm 54 tomorrow and I bought my g/f a V6. There's no comparison based on my "fun meter"...

Default Heh

My mom is just a few years older than you, and I tell her over and over, Youth is Overrated! She was holding out for a GT, but she and my dad (who is really the driving force behind all that) want to pick one up like my husband and I did - wrecked and needing rehabilitation. And that a PITA sometimes, to get them back on their feet and not end up with a money pit.

My dad may have resolved the debate - he just emailed me, has found a 70 Fastback shell in near perfect condition and my husband just happens to have a kick a$$ 302 and tranny he's about to swap out for a 351C/FMX in a 69 coupe. The 302 and tranny need a home, the Fastback needs some guts... my dad is ecstatic... the Fastback is nearly identical to the one he had in high school, color and all, plus, he's a 302 man.

Could be time for a fuel filter.

My Mustang had 24K miles on it when we bought it a month ago.
Since then I have changed the oil to Valvoline 5W-30 Synthetic. I also changed the Manual Trans. Fluid to Amsoil ATF, and the Rear End Fluid to Amsoil Severe Gear. I also dropped in a K&N air filter.
We took it on a trip from Richmond, VA to NJ and we took the long way, 64 West to 81 North. All highway. Some top down, some top up with heavy rain. We got 30MPG going and 31MPG coming home, calculated at the pump. The readout was accurate to within a few 10ths of a MPG. I'm thrilled. Around town I get about 18 to 19MPG.
