This one is probably the best sounding set up I've heard so far:

Just bolted on a GT takeoff without going dual ($$$) def noticed a top end gain (when passing on the interstates) and a different deeper tone, but i can hear the ricer sound at higher rpms. my uncle who has a 6.0L GTO actually liked the sound and before I told him what i did he asked me if I changed the exhaust. He thought it sounded exotic but after owning a W8, nothing sounds exotic fro ma Mustang. I havent decided on my exhaust but want to go dual and want a better sound, but for now i'm fine with it. Like everyone says, find the sound you like and buy it. my local shop will install all the piping then bolt up mufflers 2 at a time till you find the note youre looking for. A V6 will never sound like V8 and a V8 will never sound like a W8 unless it had Ferraris flat plane crank. bottom line, a lot goes in to a sound, find what makes you happy and don't listen to people that say you should have gotten a V8

I'm sure there are many reasons people buy the car they landed on for many reasons. It easy to say you should have bought a V8 blah blah....

The point is he didn't or couldn't. The S197 is a pretty sharp set up be it V6 or GT, it just is. There is a reason the aftermarket is so strong on these cars, people want to hook them up.
No you can't make it sound like a 8 but you can make it sound better. PERIOD.
