With a ratchet and socket?

Is it bad and if so how did you determine that
or is this a HP increase mod?
Here is the workshop manual online.

well ya. is there a certain way to take the sensors off the top? the new egr doesnt come with them and requires you to swap them over.

it started in fith and and worked its way to fourth gear. what was happening was id be going normal speed, and when i hit the gas the rpms would increase but the car wasnt going any faster. i cant slam the gas but when i hit it lightly it goes. i took it to the dealer and they determined (after 5 hours of troubleshooting) that the egr was going bad. i thought it might of been the maf or something else.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System Module
1. Disconnect the EGR system module electrical connector.
2. Disconnect the engine harness vacuum-to-EGR system module connector.
3. Disconnect the EGR system module tube-to-EGR system module fitting.
To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
4. NOTE: Upon installation, make sure to install the correct EGR system module mounting gasket. Even though varying gaskets may be very similar, orifice sizes may differ thus causing performance issues.
Remove the 2 bolts, the EGR system module and the gasket. Discard the gasket.
To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
5. NOTICE: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive disc or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of the old gasket.
NOTE: The EGR system module sealing surfaces are soft metals.
6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Install a new gasket with the raised circle facing away from the EGR system module.

Didn't sound like an EGR valve issue to begin with. The dealer spent 5 hours troubleshooting and came up with THAT? I certainly hope you're still under warranty and don't have to pay his idiotness.

Possible tranny slipping? That certainly would not be the egr! If rpms increase, that rules out the engine not responding or not running.

tried this to see what n e one would think. put it in fourth and hit the gas. rpms went from 3300 to 4500 for about 4 or 5 seconds then slowly went down. if it is slipping would it be the clutch? this is my first manual car so i got some stuff to learn.
