how would bending the hangers help, the brackets have the rubber inserts which hold the hangers and they flex alot so unless I bent them really far I don't see it helping any.

I did a single swap a few week ago and my clearance is perfect. equidistant on all sides. Loosen the clamp on the muffler, adjust it to where its not touch and tighten it. that is the best way to do it. nothing more is needed.... unless you bent a hanger, bracket, or pipe somewhere in the process earlier. try sliding the muffle back on the pipe as far as it will go.
DO NOT bend the hangers. Loosen the midpipe clamp near the tranny and at the axleback again and wiggle all the joints until you get the proper clearance. If it doesn't work, then it's possible the PREVIOUS muffler owner bent the hangers and THEN you may need to bend them. But make that your LAST resort.
well today I loosed up the muffler clamp and used a strap that was anchored down to keep the tip of the muffler perfetcly where I wanted it while I tightened the clamp back up and it did nothing for me. I tried it three times with no luck at all I even tried rocking the muffler up and down on the mid pipe but that didn't help either.
How do I check the hangers if they're bent ? cause before I put the muffler on they all seemed straight to me, nothing out of the ordinary.
I've still got the stock Y pipe, the h is my next project
Also, as I said before I've already tried the method of loosen clamp reposition then tighten with no luck. I've come to the conclusion that I think the pipe is slightly bent or the curve pipe of the muffler is a few degrees off from the stock v6 muffler, just enough to make the GTA collide with the bumper. So I don't think there is anything I can do but cut the bumper...
You shouldn't have to cut the bumper. Many people (including me) have done this swap on a V6 without the need to cut anymore the existing opening. Keep trying on bending the muffler hanger or slightly rotating the midpipe. Also, you could make a lower opening on the rubber part of the hanger closest to the bumper and use it for the muffler hanger.

What about the other clamp at the midpipe-to-Y joint? We've been telling you all along that you need to loosen BOTH clamps and make adjustments at BOTH joints. Movement of the midpipe at the Y will result in altering the position of the muffler tip.
Another thing you CAN do is to shim the rear hanger (put some spaces between the hanger and frame), to lower it a little bit. I have my passenger side rear hanger about 1/2" lower than the other side (cutout), and both clear properly and evenly.
The stock v6 tips are smaller diameter.

well it turns out the pipe alignment is fine, the previous owner must have bent the hangers cause that's what throwing it off.
parts out of the box rarely fit perfectly. This is where you need to become a little creative and use some mechanic'n skills. Bend the hangers around a little. Fit it back up, see if it makes it better or worse. Adjust accordingly. It aint rocket science, hot roddin is; 'adjust to fit'. I had to persuade mine with a hammer and a huge pair of channel locks.
