i had this problem. the car would occasionally lose coolant through the res cap after i turned it off.

after 2 res tank and cap replacements, i tried a different dealership and they found the problem. a computer in the emissions system was faulty.

luckily, the emissions warranty is 8 yrs, so i avoided the $1200 repair...

Still waiting on parts but took it to a mech and he can't figure it out. How would a computer have anything to do with the cooling? Only thing it does is turn the fan on and it comes on fine.

Change the thermostat before it blows the plastic housing apart! Mine did the same thing. Ford is back to using thermostats that make the car overheat when they stop working instead of never warming up. The thermostat is about $15. If you don't change it soon you will be buying or repairing the thermostat housing $60.
