Default Yet another exhaust question

I have an 05 4.0 that I want to convert to true dual exhaust. The Ford racing system seems to be good, but I am wondering why it comes with an X pipe instead of an H like the v8 GT's. I don't know much about doing this conversion but willing to give it a try. I have read of so many complaints of drone etc with the x pipe that I just don't know what to do? Can anybody help? Thanks, Jay

theres like 50 billion threads on this topic, try the search bar dude.

the fast answer is if u want an H buy one or have a shop fab one for you. same with the X. theres a lot of sites that sell clamp on kits of various price ranges and muffler/midpipe setups.

best way to get a vibe for the sound of different setups is to go to youtube and search mustang exhausts

Manzanman,

You will be glad you converted to the duals once you do so. Noticable diffenence in loks and sound. You are right, the frpp exhaust is a good choice, as it comes with all the pipes and connectors. As to why it comes with an X pipe and not an H, no one but FoMoCo will have an answer for you. It just is. I did not install my kit, but for ~$100 an exhaust shop can have it all done up in no time at all. Quality of parts/ fitment is much better with this kit then say a pypes kit. Drone is not caused by your midpipe but more your choice in mufflers. The frpp kit comes with the Bullitt mufflers. They are pretty tame. This kit as is off the shelf has no drone. If anything, it is too quiet.

If your looking for a dual set up, I reccomend this kit. If you decide in time you would like something else (sound wise) you can start changing out the midpipe or axlebacks.

I'm thinking of getting a single Flowmaster exhaust(40 series) and was wondering if I have to put back my stock setting on the Diablo Sport Tune before I get the exhaust installed?
Thanks

If Ford would have had their kit available when I was in the process of converting to duals, I would have got it. As far as lack of quality in the Pypes X-pipe, I have had no issues except for the poorly designed clamp. Other than that, the parts are solid! I will say I saved 50% by getting Pypes parts.

I want to, but it's twice as much and the mechanic told me it would drain my car from horses. Let's say I get the single, I can always go dual later with the same exhaust right? I'm thinking yeah.

No, it doesn't drain your car of hp. In fact, a mechanic told me that by having duals the car would breathe a lot better. If it was such a big deal Ford wouldn't put duals on their New Edge V6 SUV nor would many of us convert.

Pypes set up was around $315 plus a set of GT take off mufflers for cheap that I got off of this forum.
In the future I would like to upgrade the mufflers to Borlas.

Nah I didnt mean to slam the pypes owners or anything, I have just read many posts of people complaining about installing some pypes equiptment and how it lines up poorly and just makes the installation a little more time consuming. Just tryin to help manzanman out with his options
