Default fuel gauge issue

My 2005 V6 started having an issue with the fuel gauge today. The needle should point somewhere between "10:00 - 2:00", to show full - empty. Instead it is pointing down and moves from the 6:00 - 8:00 area. I'll have to keep the tank topped off till I figure it out. Could someone tell me what might be wrong? Thanks.

My speed-o went out just last year. I have an '05 also. It was registering 0mph when I was clearly going at least 35mph. I had the Ford dealership replace it. They had to actually change out the whole instrument cluster. That was a good chunk of change.

If it's just your gas guage that's gone out you might be able to just get that changed out, but I'm not sure how or if you can just do that. Someone on here might be able to shed some light.

my gas gauge acted funny the other day... i knew i had half tank but it showed only a 1/4 full. after shutting down and restarting, it showed correctly at 1/2 full. hope this isnt a sign of more glitchy things to come.

To the OP, I see you have an '05. Hopefully you're aware of the water leak issue (see the TSB's in the stickies) and also be aware that the water leak is simply a precursor to corrosion of the connections at the SJB. This can cause all kinds of electrical gremlins.
