Advice on Limited Slip Differential + new Gears
I had some spare money laying around and decided I wanted to upgrade some parts of my car.
I'm currently driving a 2010 v6 mustang with stick tranny. It came stock with 3.33 gear ratio (I think its 3.33 I know its the lowest of the 3 possible options)
A combination of my desire for more power and with winter coming...I thought it might not be a bad idea to purchase a limited slip differential with a new 3.73 gear ratio.
I've heard about people doing this, but I'm questioning whether its worth the money and time. A family friend of mine is a very experienced mechanic and I'd be installing it with him.
Was going to purchase these:

Long story short, should I do it?

Actually your gear ratio is 3.31 not 3.33. And the worst modding decision I ever made was trying to build the 7.5 rear end. It cost me more to add 3.73 and tlok than it cost to buy the new rear end and swap it in after I broke the 7.5 (bent the pinion just with a set of drag radials, no nitrous or supercharger at that time).

well said.....when i had a gm g-body, i must have built that damn 7.5" diff 4 times - coulda, shoulda, woulda - just find and built an 8.5" and be dun with it. tough pill to swallow I realize, but pls learn from our mistakes. If you dont have that kind of cash, the dice are in your hands meng. gl

You may end up better off finding a takeoff 8.8" out of a GT as the 7.5 doesn't like power or sticky tires at all.

The Ford Racing Traction-Lok will be a vast improvement in traction over an open differential & is 100% Ford so it'll live a long service life. Unfortunately FRPP no longer offers gears for the 7.5, but luckily there are a few good aftermarket manufacturers, like Yukon, that do.
Being you're looking at a gear & diff swap, I'd suggest going with a full install kit with new bearings. Add in a couple quarts of your favorite diff oil & a bottle of friction modifier & you'll have all the parts you need! Then comes picking out a shop to do the work.........

I just upgraded my 7.5. I purchased the kit at StangMods. It cost me $425 for the installation. That included 2 carrier bearings and races which didn't come with the kit. I went to a reputable shop to have this done. I would never do this myself considering the money involved and it's a daily driver. Hopefully she holds up. No plans for any power upgrades. At least not yet. :-)
If you decide to purchase a kit make sure you verify all the parts when it arrives. Mine was missing the pinion shims and I had to contact the vendor to get it shipped.
