Quick take-offs and sudden stops will contribute to lower gas mileage. I usually get any where from 21-23 in the city. According to the on dash info, I average 26 mpg. Also crappy gas will hurt your mileage too.

We dont buy these cars for MPGs. We buy them for the love of them, the joy of driving them, the pleasure of killing imports, and the magic ability that they have which makes girls clothes disappear.

Bottom line: 15 MPG just means youre driving it correctly.
So true, so very true.

My only concern was if something was wrong and if something needed to be changed (like the fuel filter) It doesnt really matter to me what MPG I'm getting but what does matter is that my stang is running as it should

Thank you guys for the help and the peace of mind that everything is all good I really do appreciate it

Yeah I agree with the guy above that said get the oem filter. It's like 15 bucks at Ford around here for the Motorcraft one. It's a pretty easy swap.

I average about 17 city but on an all highway trip I get about 26. I do a lot of stop and go driving through the city between buildings all day. I'd say 15mpg is pretty low if you're driving conservatively, but if you're getting into it from every stop I'd say that's probably about right haha.

Woah, I had no idea the 4.0 was so bad on gas. With a 08 GT I got about 21-23 city and 25-26 mpg on the highway. Are you constantly banging off redline as you drive down the freeway?

yeah. the low mileage on the older 4.0 is worse than what im getting in the 5.0. its amazing what a few years and tech improvements have brought.

If you are getting 22.5 mixed and 26-29 hwy then by my calculations you are getting 16-17 mpg in the city. That's unless math has changed over the last 30+ years tehehe^^^^^

Mileage can vary immensely for sure... Just took a trip across Alligator Alley over the weekend and at 70mph, windows up, air on, I pegged a solid 25mpg. Around town? With the dubiously long traffic lights that South Flawda is known for... 18mpg. And that's with me shifting the car between 1750 and 2000rpm.

Do all the basics... tire pressure, etc. If you're at long lights, you can shut her down and wait. That may help if it's 1 minute or more at a light.

ya, hard to say cause i dont spend enough time in city traffic to know. my driving style is about 10% conservative ( just cause it rains) and 90 spirited but the small v8`s have always run a few mpg less than the big v6`s. most of the v8`s get around 25 on the highway driving conservative which is pretty good i think, and a few less than the 6. with gas prices, they are trying to squeeze the mpg out of the cars to help sell them and doing a pretty good job.
