Default Newbie Here - Exhaust Question

OK, so I am new to Ford and Mustangs.

New to Ford due to GM being owned (stolen) by the UAW and new to Mustangs through a bit of serendipity.

I am slowly learning the Mustang and muscle car culture. I still don't understand destroying $400 worth of tires doing burnouts, but I guess I'll get there some day.

My first question is regarding exhaust modifications. I have a v6 and while it is more powerful than anything I have every driven, I sounds un-satisfyingly like a run of the mill car.

I would like a sound that's more fitting, but not obnoxious.

Now I understand that one of the elements of more power is more air in and more exhaust out. I am wondering, does that also mean will it also help fuel economy (assuming you drive conservatively).

And with these mods, are there any updates that need to be made to the computer to properly balance timing? I assume providing more air and less exhaust resistance will alter the fuel mixture if not adjusted.

Please educate me.

syco, your going to need to be specific as to single or dual so we can chime in. You also
need to post pictures of your Pony to further get our attention,Alan in sunny Seadrift,Tx.

You'll gain very, very little performance with any exhaust work beyond the stock Y-pipe but you WILL improve the exhaust note. Even going to duals won't gain much, if any, power. The 4.0 has other breathing restrictions and the exhasut isn't one of the more impactful ones.

dude i just got the Flowmaster American Thunder from AM and it sounds awesome. The stock mufflers blows so much so i had to get a better sounding note. This is a good exhaust and i like the sounds a lot. If you want i could post a video.

Best thing for you to go is get a muffler off a GT and put it on there..cheap and easy.
if you still want louder, consider other options.

For single, you could have an exhaust shop do a muffler delete...probably cost about 60 bucks after labor and parts, but it sounds AMAZING.

As far as fuel economy, honestly the only way you would see a large impact would be numerous combined mods..(weight reduct, CAI, tune, exhaust, etc.), or just drive slower..
I have a Tune, CAI, and exhaust and I still get the same MPG's I did before all of that.
