Right here is a brand new takeoff rear end for 999$.
I'm sure I could buy this but I'd rather buy a slightly used one.
I've contacted many people over eBay and Craigslist and everyone wants 1000+$ how in the world can you ask for 1000+ $ for a used gt rear end ..
I mean it's used .
Where will I have more luck in the Sacramento area finding a gt rear end? I just want to install a posi with 3.55 and finally get that power to the ground

I don't know why they are expensive, but from my experience, they can be bought for cheaper than $1,000 from private sellers. I picked mine up for about half that. The axle itself had around 120k on it. After I bought it, I picked up a rebuild kit, new gears, new t-lok and a new differential cover from AM. After everything was installed the axle was like new. Don't be afraid to buy a high mileage axle, you can always rebuild it.
Have you tried junk yards or something similar to that? Other forums?

New take-off and used sellers are different rear ends.
New take-off is just that, a new take-off.
A used rear end will have some miles on it and
be worth much less than that...

Before I had mine shipped from Oklahoma, I went to the gas station/service station a mile down the road from me and asked if I could ship it there. It was considerably cheaper than having it shipped to my house. Just a thought.

Also, it's cheaper in the long run to just buy an 8.8" than it would be to build a 7.5", break it, then build it up again.

8.8 is definitely stronger. And you also assume that the parts can be found; Ford doesn't offer a tlok for the 7.5 anymore, probably for the reason below -- cost
The 7.5" just can't handle the abuse that the 8.8" can. My car isn't a powerhouse by any means, but if/when I do start adding more power, it's good to know the 8.8" won't break on me after a couple of hard launches.
