Default Transmission Oil

I know there are several threads about changing the oil in a std 5 speed T5. However, I asked a couple of times and never got a direct answer. Is this a good choice for my 2006 4.0 with a T5 5 speed? :

Royal Purple 01512 Synchromax High Performance Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid

The threads that I read were generally for GT's and I wasn't sure if it made a difference or not. I did ask, lol, but thought if I posted here I would get someone who has tried this.

What I DID get from the threads was that I need to change my std transmission fluid. I have around 45k on my car, and I've never really liked the stiffness of the shifting. I read that this will make a big difference.
Thoughts?

The fluid you want is ATF (yes...automatic fluid in a manual transmission). Check your owners manual of Google TSB 06-26-1 for the specs. I believe Mercon V is what is called for now (but don't trust my memory). It should take just under 3 quarts. If you want a synthetic, just make sure it's compatible. I've heard good things about Mobil 1 synthetic ATF. I've also heard those who swear by AMSOIL.

I've used Mobil 1 ATF synthetic not only in the 5 spd transmission but power steering as well.

Does Mobil 1 make it shift easier? The reason the Royal Purple stuff caught my eye was that it unanimously made the cars shift smoother. Again, the thread was primarily for the GT forum (found it from a search), but had hoped to replace what is in there with something that will shift smoother.

Any of the top brand synthetics - Amsoil, Mobil1, Royal Purple in that order should make it shift better. While there is no guarantee so long as there aren't any major mechanical issues you will see an improvement.

I'm not against Royal Purple. My point was that you were talking about manual transmission fluid when the T-5 calls for automatic transmission fluid. If you are taking advise from a GT forum, bear in mind that the GT's use a different transmission (TR-3650). Even so, that transmission uses ATF.

I know some people swear by Amsoil but I've heard that the trade-off for better performance is premature wear. The same is true of GM Synchromesh (which Tremec recommends against). If you're unhappy with your transmission's performance, my suggestion would be Mobil 1 ATF. Otherwise, you can save a few dollars and go with Mercon.

This is what I'm going to buy, nevermind the price or site - I just want to verify:

Amazon.com: Mobil 1 Synthetic Automatic Transmission Formula: Automotive Amazon.com: Mobil 1 Synthetic Automatic Transmission Formula: Automotive

Also, the advice from the GT forum was simply from my search. I asked specifically about my 4.0 and never got a straight answer, which is why I posted here on the 4.0 forum. Thanks again, love this forum!

It is on the way. On my earlier search, i also saw how to add the oil from the topside, thru the shifter boot. Already got some tubing for it.
