Default Which Octane booster?

Octane booster or pay for 91 at the pump? Which octane booster?

I just put this on my car, with a tune for 87 (performance tune):

http://www.americanmuscle.com/fordra...ai-0509v6.html

The CAI came with no instructions, but a flyer pointing to a website for installation instructions. There is a sticker inside the box, to be put on the CAI itself, which says 91+.... well, I have the 97 perf tune on, we'll see what happens. But, thinking ahead, I wonder if I'll need the higher octane or booster. Thoughts?

If you have a performance 87 octane tune, that should be all you need. A CAI should not raise the octane requirement. I have an '06 GT with an 87 performance octane boost and the car is very happy with 87. It's your money.

Well, I agree but when the CAI came it had a sticker for 91+... I did not think I needed anything higher than 87, never used higher (except once, to try out the racing tune, LOL). I really don't want to buy anything but did not know.

Does it ping under load? If not, you're good.

I know on the GT that ANY fuel additive is frowned upon and known to be problematic. For higher octane, I'd stick with pumped fuel in the octane of choice. And, again, if you're not tuned for a higher octane, don't waste your money on higher octane.

That is VERY good news. I really didn't want to spend the money doing it, the sticker came as a surprise. Cool, I'll drive it to work this week and see how it does.

Watch for a CEL when you drive. If the CAI had a sticker for higher octane it may have changed air flow, even the "no tune required " CAI will frequently trip a CEL.

Oh yeah, i'll be watching. I've had mine tuned for a while, even switched b/t the 3 tunes provided by Bama last year. I didn't drive it today, needed my truck for something after work, but will probably drive it tomorrow.

If you have bama tunes, then just get in touch with them and get a tune written for the CAI yuou have and the octane you want to use. use the "free tunes for life" program.
