Default Engine Icon Light on Dash Stays On ??

Not sure if the yellow engine icon on the dash is the check engine light but it stays on despite the OBD II scanner reading no codes. Even when I clear it with the scanner, that little icon shaped like a motor stays on. Is this the check engine light? Why would it be on with no codes in the system? The engine seems to be running fine.

Thanks, Phil Swanson

Some codes you need the Ford tool to read I have found. Try stopping by an Auto Zone and see if they can pull up anything on their tool.

Thanks but my tools are far superior to anything Auto Zone has or sells and their people are a bunch of no loads from what I've seen. Auto Zone here won't even check any more because they have been sued for faulty diagnosis on cars which has cost their customers big bucks.

Have any of you guys gotten false lights before with no codes?

Thanks, Phil Swanson

Take it to your local Ford dealer.

Guess I will have to talk to the Ford dealer but before I go to that expense, I was wondering if any of you guys had experienced the same issue and if so, how did you fix it?

Thanks, Phil Swanson

I second, I'd go to Ford and have it checked out

You could be like my dad and put some black tape over it.

He drove his Cougar for years with it on.

This thread was missing some details. Problem was fixed in another thread:

https://mustangforums.com/forum/2005...-no-codes.html

Engine had been replaced. Turned out to be the Auto Trans harness for the solenoid pack was dirty/not seated correctly.
