Removing CAI for Stock Airbox - new to California
Having had a JLT CAI on my 2010 V6 in Illinois has not been a problem. It's been there since 2011 without issue.
Now I moved to California and discovered that CAIs are frowned upon and will not pass the SMOG test. I didn't realise this when I gave away my old stock box...
So I called the local dealer who confirmed that any 2005-2010 stock box would fit. Found one on ebay from a 2009 but it doesn't seem to fit that well - unless i take the front rubber intake inlet off (see highlighted picture).
Questions:
1. Is the 2009 compatible afterall - it seems a weird fit? Should I just remove the rubber gasket inlet?
2. I also do not have the connector hose (hard plastic) to the back of the engine (i/e not the TB large connector) - will any 1/2 inch automotive hose do?
3. Is there anyway i could keep my CAI instead ? (other than buying a CAI that is CARB approved) - perhaps ppl have CARB stickers going?!
Thanks in advance

unfortunately the 05'-09' stock air filter box and tube will not work on the 10' model. they changed the induction on both the V6 and V8 cars that year but still retained the older V6- 4.0 and V8- 4.6. you will need a 10' and up factory "cold air induction" filter box and tube. look on your local CL and see if any are for sale, should be fairly cheap. good luck

I got the tube from the box to the TB to fit fine and just have to use a 1/2 inch heater hose to connect to the rear of the car. I just found the airbox a little hard to position. It's for the CARB inspection only... also other ebay listings show it compatible... strange - http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Air-Cleaner-Filter-Box-Assembly-Housing-for-Ford-Mustang-4-0L-V6-SOHC-05-10-/131285927470?fits=Model%3AMustang

I stand corrected. seems they didn't change the box for the V6 and just the tube for the V8 in 2010? here is a local CL post for 2010 V6 stock intake.
