alright i still yet to figure out how things work with modding my car. i alrdy saved up a lot of cash and made a list of mods i wanted to do and i posted it a long time ago...but im still wondering...
i have a 96GT Automatic trans.
i was looking for BBK headers and i found that there is a lot of diferent model types...i cant figure out the diference between most of them...and i still dont know which type of exhaustsystem would make my car sound like i want it to. they dont give descriptions like that.
anyone know a good website, good book or maybe yourslef about what kind of a exhaustsystem would make a 96GT sound deep or brutal( dunno the word, but loud....ex loudmouth?)
thx

Go there and listen to some sound clips. They suck to hear on the internet and it sounds nowhere near as good as real life, but at least you'll get somewhat of an idea. If you want a super deep bassy street shaking kinda sound, get an off-road H-pipe with long tube headers and chambered mufflers, Flowmaster or MAC. You get better resonance if you weld on some pre-axle dumps and aim the exhaust down so it will sound even louder. The most muscular sound I've ever personally heard from a 4.6 Mustang had an off-road H-pipe with MAC flowpath mufflers. The first time I heard it I was thinking to myself "good God almighty there's no way that's a 4.6!!" I thought he had a 351 in that thing, it sounded so good and LOUD!!

i apreciate your help man. thx im looking at the website right now
after a couple of hours of research and reading....im the one EXHAUSTED....
anywho... correct me if im wrong...
Some aftermarket mid-pipes that are intended for off-road or racing use dont have catalytic converters, like for example "off-road H-pipes" or "off-road X-pipes.
this would cause polution and harm to the environment then?!
your right, off road is intended not for street use, and no its not legal because its taking off your catalytic converters which has a high paying fine around my area, but i have a BBK O/R H pipe with Borla Cat back, sounds good, and no tickets or anything yet and when emissions time comes ill just swap out the BBK H Pipe with the stock one to pass
Cats remove pollution from your exhaust and power from your car. thay also take care of that great unburnt fuel smell. If you are worried about polluting or breaking the law, I would look into high performance cats. Cats also make your car quieter
Illegal??? Man am I in trouble, most of my car is illegal. My pipes are illegal my tint is illegal my blackouts are illegal. If you want a loud deep exhaust go with the offroad pipes, unless of course your state does emission tests. MAGNAFLOW!!!
i have to do my research on magnaflow...i dunno about that.
oh and i dont want anything illegal on my car...i just talked to one of my buddies today and he has no CAT either...its illegal. he just puts it back on for emissions just like you.
I have to pass emissions, and I'm running an off-road X-pipe and Flowmasters so it's pretty wicked sounding and pretty loud and raunchy. You shouldn't have a problem unless for whatever reason cops where you live go out of their way to be a$$holes. I've never had a problem and driven by many a cop with the loud exhaust. They won't know you've removed your cats. You will notice the biggest gain in both performance and sound by replacing your cats with an off-road pipe though. If you really don't want to do anything illegal, your best option is to get a mid-pipe with high-flow cats. They're considerably more expensive than pipes wtih no cats, and you won't get as much performance, but you'll still be legal. Just FYI it takes no time at all to swap out the mid-pipe when it's time to smog, and it's super easy. Just keep your stock H-pipe stashed away somewhere. Magnaflow makes an X-pipe with high-flow cats.
