Default RE: Belt keeps breaking????

well i had this problem b4 i had a supercharger...... there is a stud under the power stering pump that does not need to be there poor design is the only reason i see for it to be there... i just cut off the stud (do not remove just cut the part sticking out) it was rubing on the belt just enough to shred it.... also check your crank pully mine seperated on me so i upgraded to a sfi. if the crank pully seperates the belt wont line up right

it is a sfi approved pullie i dont know what the abrevation stands for but it will not fall apart under higher rpms and more power. the thing in my sig infront of the boost gauge is the sfi pullie i have on my car. they are required at the track if you are running certain times.

Default RE: Belt keeps breaking????

i have a procharger on my 98gt running about 12-13 psi
the belt it had with it was so short it was near imposible get it on with the tensioner fully compressed and i kept throwing belts
i ordered myself a bigger belt and bought a newer water pump and tensioner (i broke the old one)
if your belt does not bottom out the tensioner under a full rev its not the tensioner. (assuming its not bent or weak)
check ur idler pullies around the procharger headunit they have some problems with drying out.
if all your allignments are right it shouldent be jumping ribs. have you gone over and cleaned all of your pullies with break cleaner and made sure they arent damaged?
the stock tensioner blows btw.. or atleast mine did being bent weak and dry, do yourself a favor and buy a new one that wont bend (you have to take off the head unit to install it but its worth it)
well thats my .02

--edit-- oh and if you bottom out that tensioner it WILL throw belts and more than likely caused your ribs to jump. thank the people who decided the tensioner didnt need a lip.

--edit 2-- i spose that would cause the belt to tear aswell jumping 2 ribs tword the front of the car would cause the belt to rub on the tensioner arm

buy a new LONGER belt and tensioner.
lol @ after thoughts
