ORIGINAL: Acer2428 Yes, it is. For a new one you will need the new T-stat, gasket, and some more coolant! Don't forget a bucket and a little patience. As far as thermostat temps... On my 96. Thermostat Opening Temperature 192°F. On my 2000 Water Thermostat Start to Open Temperature 192 - 199 F Water Thermostat Full Open Temperature 219 F Funny thing is it's the same part#, but different specs. Go figure! I've heard the same thing about running too cold a thermostat...engine never reaches full operating temp and causes problems.

oK, excuse my dumb question here seeing as how I have never delt with a radiator in any way... Where is the T stat located? I will trya and replace the T stat/gasket and drain/refill the coolant herre soon. It has not been done in a while anyway. Infact it has never been changed since I have owned the car. Another stupid question.. How often should the radiator be flushed and fluid replaced? Thanks guys!

Trace the hose coming into the top of the radiator back to your engine. Where it meets the block is the location of your thermostat. I haven't looked on my car, but that's where every thermostat I've ever replaced was.

According to Ford, coolant shoud be replaced at 45K, 75K, 105K, 135K, and 150K. Weird schedule. I've never been a big fan of replacing coolant. I've ran several cars to >100K miles and might have changed the coolant once.

Well mine has been running at around the 1/3 mark until it got warm out here. Now it is running in that range also, with a 180*. I bought a cheapie thermostat though. On my 2003 Chevy truck, I put in a 180* Jet Performance thermostat, and have had it in 2 years now. It never goes past the 1/3 mark, even when hot. It keeps it way cooler. $20 bucks kinda sucks, but it seems to do a much better job, and is really pretty cheap insurance compared to some of the things we will gladly spend $20 on. I am getting ready to flush mine next week and replace the water pump while I doing it since its only about $60, and add a little water wetter. Probably order the Jet thermostat too. Pretty sure I should stay cool then.
