You should swap in one of our T45S transmissions, upgraded to avoid all the failings of the T45 including popping out of gear and shift fork failure. We can provide some of the transmission specific parts, and you can find the rest at a swap meet or boneyard. This would be the most economical way to go if you want something that will last. Plan to drop about $1900 on new parts and another couple of hundred at the boneyard for a top notch swap and good durability. Hope this helps.

how does your tranny compare to the T-45R by TheDriveMan? they'res has the input shaft from the tko, upgraded internals, and rated at ~500ft/lbs.

Here's some info about a stock 4r70w transmission. It's a pretty potent tranny and world's better than an AODE(my stock auto gave up within two months of having the SC. My new AODE w/4r70w internals seems to be holding up well. Plus it's stronger than stock standard manual transmissions for the Mustang.

1996 - 2003 Mustangs

4R70W

4 = 4 Forward Gears

R = Rear Wheel Drive

70 = 700 foot pounds torque rating

W = Wide Ratio Gear Set 1st - 2.84 2nd - 1.55 3rd - 1.00 4th - .70

The 4R75W available in 2004 is essentially the same transmission, but it does have some minor internal changes that give it a 750 foot pounds torque rating.

Dimensions: Overall length 31 3/16", Length to mount center 23 5/16", Width at pan rail 14.75"

Weight: 196 Lbs.

Torque Converter Stall: 1,800 Rpm Foot Pedal / 2200+ Rpm Flash

Piston Plate modulated lock up

Torque Converter Size: 11.25"

31 Tooth Slip Yoke

Transmission Mount: Shear Mount

By all means buy a transmission from The Driven Man! We own that company too. We have been doing all of our street car business under that name, Jaguar and Domestic stuff, and we are slowly moving all the American car products to American Powertrain. Since we added our own brand of clutches, flywheels and hydraulics it just didn't make sense not to have an American only division.

The Jaguar portion of the business does transmissions along with wheels, exhaust systems, suspensions and other boring, non-transmission related stuff.

The Driven Man will eventually be left with only British performance stuff. If you call our phone number you will have the option of choosing British sales, for which you will get the Jaguar nuts, or American Car sales, for which you will get incredibly cool and knowledgeable red blooded American Muscle Car guys.

Well, yes, from the factory these transmissions do have their problems, especially the t45. However, they are just metal and moving parts, and with the right upgrades they can be made to perform well, handle big power and shift accurately for less than the cost of the TKO or t56. As I have said before, if price is not a factor the TKO is king, but when dollars rear their ugly head the t45 and 3650 can be a performance bargain.

Oh, one more thought. If your firewall is flexing or your factory cable has stretched, you will kill either of these transmissions in a hurry. It is not the transmissions' fault that Ford chose cheap cables and made weak firewalls. Fix your cable issues and you will keep that t45 or 3650 healthy for a lot longer.
