get a built auto. manual swap is a pain in the a$$
Let's face it, some guys like to shift it themselves and play hard, some guys like to eat cheeseburgers at the wheel. If you really like automatics I have a nice Buick for you.
On a serious note, most DIY guys can swap from a bone stock automatic to a stick in a weekend. Swapping a manual for another manual is a Saturday afternoon job.

I'm so lame I had to look up FTW to see what it meant. Now that I know, I agree, TKO500/600 FTW. By the way, if you are about to turn 40 and you see anything that starts with an F you figure right off it can't be good.

Well as much as like the idea of flying through gears coming of the lights. Money and the fact I also love those curvy road sides, I went with a ungraded 4r70W and a 2000 stall. I figured it would do me well enough till I'm outa college and I'm making the "big bucks" and then i might go with a t-56. I also was able to get a local shop to swap it for $300. I would have done it myself but my garage and tools are at home.
O yeah I forgot to mention, it should be be here and in the car some time late next week or early the following. Stay tuned and I'll let you know what I think.

Hey SF,
Nothing wrong with the way you chose to go. We all gotta' do what makes us happy and fits our budget. When you finish up with your education and start earning big cash we can talk about a t56. Keep us posted. We have been considering offering a 700r4 GM transmission (all right, all right, that's enough cussing) for Fords as they are durable and CHEAP relative to some of Ford's offerings. We have them adapted to the Ford engines but we are trying to guage interest. I'll be interested to see what the reaction is to your install.

This is a pretty common story in our business. When the Big3 have a transmission built they often start with a really good design and then cheapen so many parts so that it comes in under budget and will hold on to just enough power to deal with stock street situations.
Because the TKO is not an OE transmission in any stock vehicle, it can be built like a tank and keep all the hot parts that don't make it past the OE bean counters. As long as Tremec can keep it affordable to the aftermarket it will retain all the good stuff.
Compared to stock 5-speeds the TKO rules.

I have a 07 mustang gt. Ive put a supercharger, heads, cams new exhaust all the way back. Now i still have the original tranny in it and ive been told it wont last long that it will blow. That i need to upgrade to a six speed. now would it be best for me to just buy a new tranny or is there any way i can buy upgrades for my original to withstand the power i have in it?
