Let me correct myself, I heard the ticking when I bought the car a month ago. I thought it was an exhaust leak from the headers so I didn't make a huge deal about it.

So its been ticking before the new spark plugs. And NO, I didn't over tighten them. I know that our mustangs don't need more than about 7 lbs of torque, from what the local mustang shop told me. I didn't overtighten them.

Now, the NGK TR55 don't have a gasket seal on them or crush washer, I don't think I need them, RIGHT??

I will try unhooking the injectors one at a time to see if thats it, man it'll be hard to get to them though, not as much space as the 98 cobra has.

What about the exhaust valve, where is that located and how would I fix it if thats the problem??

Don't get ahead of yourself.

Just pull each fuel injector one at a time. It'll trip a code when you are all done, just pull the battery for a few and it'll reset.

If there is a problem with the piston/valves it'll still make the noise after you pull the injector. All this will do is just eliminate the possibility of it being an injector, but let's get started somewhere before you write your engines death certificate.

Update, sorry it took so long, been very busy.

Ok, so yesterday I unhooked the fuel injector on the drivers side just below and to the right of the IAC.
After about 10 seconds, the ticking sound went away. I was so pumped that finally, I couldn't hear that dam noise.
So I hooked the injector back up and still no noise so I went about drying my car off for another 5 minutes or so.
Then the ticking sound came back, WTH. I'm not sure if its the injector or not, the ticking went away after I unhooked it.
Does unhooking an injector while running cause a cylinder to shut down or not work properly? Just not sure what to replace now, anyone have any knowledge here. Thanks

Aimhigh I have a 2003 stock GT and I have the same exact problem you have according to what you have described. I made a post a couple months ago and it was almost exactly how you described. I have plans to drop it off at the dealership that I have a powertrain warranty with this week. I'll post what they tell me. Heres a youtube clip of my engine.

Please, has anyone diagnosed their drivers side ticking problems. If so, I wouldn't mind knowing what you did to fix it.

Sounds like if you tap an ink pen on a table. Its not real loud like a knock is so I'm sure its not a huge problems but I would like to fix it.

I'm really lost now, I thought it was the injectors. I tried unplugging them again today and the ticking didn't go away. It must be an exhaust valve or something.

Any diagnoses?? WhitefoxGT, have any ideas man

Aimhigh I took my mustang to a Ford dealership today and had them look at it for a couple hours. The mechanic that worked on it said that it was normal fuel injector ticking. He swore up and down to me that it was normal and that in fact my engine was on one of the best looking 2003s he has seen all around.

Again here is my youtube clip.

Anyone have a diagnosis for me, I still have the ticking on the drivers side. Like I said, I unhooked the drivers side injectors one at a time and the noise stopped after about 10 seconds and then started back up after about 5 minutes after the injector was hooked back up.

I tried to unhook them again thinking the noise would go away but it didn't. I'm not sure what to do now, anyone have a diagnosis for me. Thanks

I had a timing chain tensor fail and that made a ticking noise. It was hard to tell where it was coming. From under the hood it sounded like a diesel truck.

it is your injectors. these engines are very noisey and the injectors are very noisey too. if it had gone away when you unhooked one of the injectors that is the injector that is making the most noise then. you could replace that injector and the noise will probably go away.
