Default 1999-2001 Mustang GT Intake Recall

Of course this is old news, but a buddy of mine at the local Ford dealership gave me the literature on it today. Apparently, Ford extended the warranty on the intake manifold to 7 years from mfg. date. This parts update is to replace all stock manifolds with the new and improved (aluminum crossover no doubt). New P/N 1R3Z-9424-AAA. My question is...is this just a revision of the original intake or is this a performance type intake? Mechanic tried telling me that the new intake is actually a performance intake. I don't believe this is true. Can anyone shed some light on this...

Mine isn't leaking, but it will be by the end of this week.

And yes...I could have searched this, but with 31673763246 results I figured I would add another to the list.

Same performance output as the stocker, just with the aluminum crossover to prevent cracking. I would make sure you can get the new intake before yours happens to "malfunction." Wink wink, nudge nudge.

How about this one....wait until he pulls the old factory intake. Walk out into the shop before new intake goes on. Kindly hand him the PI and walk away with the new factory replacement. Sell the factory replacement and get some of my $ back.

Where are the PIs and how much are they?

I think you might be confusing that with the Cobra intake issue they had in 99 and early 01. Which the replacement is an altered intake.

99-04 have PI heads and use PI intakes and have the aluminum crossover already.......

Also a PI won't just bolt on, it needs a shim kit to match the ports on a NPI head if the car is a 96-98.

My 01' still have the plastic intake cross over. Is my car a odd ball or does someone else with a 01' have a all plastic intake?

That can't be correct, because my 99 GT does not have the aluminum crosser. I went back and review the literature and it specifically mentions the 99 GT, the Cobra was not mentioned. What is necessary to intall the PI Intake? I thought it mated right up to the factory heads on the 99-03 GT. I thought only the 96-98 GT either took adapter plates or different heads.

You already have a PI intake, I may be incorret about the 99-01 having the cross over. I was under the impression they did. I know the Cobra had intake issues that same year.

They will be repalcing it with a PI intake with the aluminum cross over if it does not have one already.

I also have to say I haven't heard of 99-01 stangs haveing intake issues, only 96-98s.

yeah, me too, my 2000 has the plastic intake also;
it didnt change from plastic until 2002 so unless it is aftermarket, all 99's-01's should have the plastic intake

TSB in question. Does cover 1996-2001 cars. It's not a recall, it's something you have to pay for. It may have been a recall at one time, but it doesn't appear to be any longer. At least for 2000 model year.

Obsolete number is blah new number is blah.

Coverage will be for 7 years from warranty start date. New parts can only be used if factory intake is actually leaking/defective, etc.

I don't feel like typing it all up...going to Ford tomorrow with this and see what happens.
