I honestly wouldn't spend the time or money tearing it apart to bring compression down. Run an intercooler, preferably air to water, and keep the timing extremely conservative. 8 lbs. from an hx50 should put you right at 400-430 rwhp.

Why would you go supercharger route just because he doesn't have forged internals? Turbo's are more efficient and way easier on the motor. 400hp is still a ton of fun even if the internals aren't forged.

Ok so 400-430 whp in that range what can I expect for trapps driven right? Also Has any of you guys rear mount turbo? ( like an sts kit but my custom kit) 430 whp with 4.10's should be a fun street car I would think. Thanks

On 375hp I was trapping 118.

That's a big negative batman. What sounds easy to you.... boost comes in mildly and progressively increases or full boost slams in all at once?
i have a remote mount, i cut the passenger side floor out (where the pass. muffler would be) and welded and enclousure back up and i have an h1e, i doubt an hx50 would fit in the same spot. if i had a hardtop i think the easiest thing to do would have been to firewall the trunk, get a fuel cell and go returnless and mount the turbo(s) where the old fuel tank was.

What are you running for a motor? Yea the hx50 is kinda big. What are you building for boost and at what rpm? I wanna do a self oil system for the turbo so no plumbing will need to be done from motor to turbo. I see dyno results of stock bottom end 32 valve motors making 450-500 whp! Kinda gets me upset knowing they can only handle 400whp safly! A built bottom end is only 1200 Shipped..... Might as well do it. Caue I know I will want more then that.
Hello Im new to the Cobra but not the turbo sceene. I have a 1997 Cobra All stock But I'm looking for some real kick! Im going with a Holset HX40 turbo (rear mounted) My quistion is I wanna lower the comp without opening the motor (yet)! Well The only thing I can really do is put a thicker head gasket in. Well who makes it and how thick can I go to get say....9.5 or maybe a little lower? Also If I get a thinker head gasket will the Timing cover still bolt on ok? Intake will be pulled apart also. If anyone has any good info please inform me.
Whats the max power I can push safely tuned at the wheel? 400whp? Where talking stock motor and a real safe tune under boost!
First off...your cobras motor is NOT made by honda. We dont use thicker head gaskets for lower compression. Second....a rear mounted turbo setup on that car is a bad idea. Rear mounted setups are garbage. Before you start making decisions and throwing parts onto it, just do a little research

A built shortblock for $1200???? Are you sure about that?

O ok SIR! First off USING a thiicker head gasket WOULD make the comp be lower... second off I said by USING a thicker head gasket it would make the heads pull apart away from the intake manifold and also make the timing cover not bolt up correctly! I did do reasearch and I did not find my anwser. And you say throw parts at it? Like what? Its still stock! And second before you go saying "rear mounted turbo's" are junk maybe you go reasearch yourself! I have a couple of good buddy's who have a rear mounted turbo! 07 GTO with 570whp and a 1990 S10 (350 swap) making over 600whp on a Holset HX55 building boost pretty fast? Intake temps are lower , more room , Very easy to work on..... This cobra is my 52nd car. I have put together/built A LOT of cars! Im not a mustang guy so I was asking a few question's! Go on youtube and watch cars with a rear mounted turbo.... O they must be junk. FORGOT sorry
