The Viper Spec is Awesome. I'm at close to 12k on mine, and it gets me near 30mpg on the highway. That .50 final gear is AMAZING.

But good write up man

Yep, I love mine too

To add something else, I have a similar clutch to the one griggs wanted to sell to the OP. The whole thing with flywheel weighs less than 15lbs. This is a great way to reduce rotating mass.

^ With all the issues addressed in my post, an '03~'04 Cobra T-56 will fit in just as mine did.

I recommend you read ALL the info on gear ratios, as this is the fundamental difference between the T-45/T-5/T-3650 transmissions. There are some additional ratios that are nearly exactly the same as the above, but just add a .8 gear between your current 4th and 5th gears (assuming you have a manual now). You can also get what is commonly known as the "Viper Spec" gears that have a final drive of .5 for good mileage on the highways.

^ not sure what gear ratios are in the Cobra

I went with the #1260, so ALL gears were indistinguishable from my T-3560 except the following. Approx. 30% taller 1st gear and .8 gear directly inbetween the 1/1 4th gear and the .68 5th gear.

This gave me a nice cruising gear for 50~60 MPH and completely eliminated the HUGE gap between 4th and 5th I had in my T-3650 Saleen and the T-5 I had in my previous '85 GT. This was a pretty expensive mod and would NOT have done it had it not been for the failing bearings I had.

i hear what you mean but my gt has the 3650 i bought the car used at 70000 which was not bad and its in great shape but i put a steeda tri ax shifter and theres a lot of unsettling noises coming threw i do realize the factory shifter blocked alot of the noises but my old 84 gt had twice the miles and it was not nearly as bad it makes me think my bearings are getting weak i have actually had people say my car sounded like it had a turbo from the high pitch sound it makes while under a full launch first to second, i can also feel the vibration in the stick as well as the grinding shifts into second if the rpms and the shift delay are not right. i have to tell my friends its the syncros i know your thinking i cant shift but come on first to second is pretty easy and i have the clutch in all the way so im pretty sure the syncros are all but shot in second. do you know if the 3650 is a weak trans or if the failures are caused by excessive abuse my old t 5 fox seemed a lot more durable especialy after two years of hard driving to include power shifting?

I don't know much about the strength of the T-3650, but several I know have swapped it for a built T-45. If you are really interested, I can put you in touch with a guy that knows a LOT about this particular swap.

My particular trans had a noisy bearing I believed to be on the input shaft. It was ultimately diagnosed by my tuner during a dyno run. I had always heard the noise, but did not notice it until after all of my suspension work. I thought noise was normal and just introduced by torque-arm. It was not really bad, but saw the need to eventually replace/repair it as I did NOT want to get stuck out on the road somewhere. The T-56 was the correct answer for me and absolutely LOVE it

I do not know if the T-5 is a tougher trans, but any trans will eventually fail if one drives hard.
