ok i'm a chevy guy myself, i mainly deal with LS1 cars and whatnot. but recently i've been needing to rethink the amount of money i put into going fast. and i've heard of some guys taking the eaton superchargers off of cobras and using them to produce somewhere around 400rwhp with full bolt-ons on a 99-04 mustang gt. sounds like cheap speed to me, cheaper than trying to throw a s/c on an LS1. is this a safe practice or are people who do this just unaware that their 4.6 is a ticking time bomb?

Its not so easy as it sounds. Usually people tend to spend 4k to fit a cobra supercharger on a GT. Why would you want to supercharge an LS. NITROUS FTW. You should know that lol. Yet doing the vortech cost people an average of 2K and thats cheap speed for 400 RWHP. The GT is good to about 450 RWHP. Its all in the tune. It all comes down to what you define cheap speed.
i think you're probably right. sticking with an LS1 and putting a bottle on it is probably the cheapest way to go fast...even though i like the idea of boost a lot better. sigh...why can't going fast be easy and inexpensive?
so what's the deal with this torktech thing? looks good to me but it kinda sounds like even using this system it's gonna be just as expensive as going with some other aftermarket blower.

Pretty much. 2V guys have been limited to Centris (except KB) for years and a Roots blower is a very different animal. I'd take one over a centri anyday...
For many people: whine > whistle

you could always buy a 96-98 cobra and supercharge that.
step away from the darkside my son.
haha yeah i know i'm on the dark side. of course everyone has their reasons. but a 96-98 cobra costs more than just a 99-04 gt doesn't it? even then is it gonna fit right? i mean one reason this thought even came to mind is that those gts are a dime a dozen. the whole emphasis here is economy. yeah i'd throw a big ol' cam in my LS1 but that means saying bye bye to 26mpg. i'm thinking inexpensive 4.6 + inexpensive s/c + easy right foot = cheap to build, cheap to drive.
(btw love the sig...put that way...a regular C6 does look like the bitch car comparitively lol)
Yea that was a funny thread...going and buying a corvette and then coming back to mustangforums and bragging about it, not a good idea. I love the torktech, I would love even more to have one. The best way in the long run to have a beast of a mustang is to put down the money in the beginning and buy a corba 03-04, and call it a day. You can find some good deals on them right now, there are people struggling to make there payments and ready to sell. I guess the same could be said about other car's too, but thats not why we are here

Or... you can get 26 MPG but when you want, open the bottle and add a 200 shot . Thats cheap speed W/O a hassle of selling you car.
