Can someone please tell me on a serious note what I should know about turbocharging my mustang GT? What do I need to install in my stang to get at least 500 RWHP?

450 is the most you can do on stock internals, and even then youre in rod-snap territory. You'll need forged internals for sure, and youre tranny isnt going to last long. May want to just aim for 425ish with a nice torque curve. Turbo kits arent as popular for the GT, but at lower 400s youll just need a single turbo. Two would be a waste.

I basically want to able to ether smoke or keep up with a Shelby.
with 420 rwhp, and a few weight reductions like a tubular front k member (which most turbo kits require anyway) you should keep up with a stock gt500. They put down between 415-430 rwhp stock from what ive seen but they weigh as much as an oceanliner....
because corvettes are so much faster than turboed mustangs?
Shelbys aren't THAT fast... Forged bottom end, low compression, upgraded fuel pump(s),
60# injectors two 62-68s or a single 73-76mm Turbo, Chose ur .AR carefully, im going with .81 so it spools decently fast. The lower the AR the quicker it spools but the less peak power it makes. The HP(flow capacity) will most likely depend on the .AR and size of the Turbo(s) and will ultimately decide how much power you can make. like the first guy said, forged internals are a must so you can turn up the boost, Shelbys are nice but they weigh a good bit, push a decent amount of PSI through your 2v and you should be able to leave a few stock/lightly modded ones behind you.

This would be a good way to go, but i'd go supercharger not turbo, if you don't wanna rip into your bottom end, unless you can fab stuff yourself the turbos gonna get expensive .
