According to my manual, the differential in our cars does not require service. Does this mean we do not need to change the fluid? I have 50k on my car and was going to change it. Should I leave it, or change it? Also, what fluid/oil weight does it need? Does it need a friction modifier as well? I have searched but have not found a for sure answer on this.

It says you dont need to, but I did. My car was starting to peg leg all the time, so I figured I would try and see if a fluid change worked and it did. The old fluid had the consistency of water. I used RP 75w-140 and did not use friction modifier and it has burned 2 wheels every time. My rear was also chattering and this fixed that as well. I forget how much I used, I wanna say it was a little over 2 bottles of it.
change that isht for sure man. get some redline in thurr.
..change the gears while your at it
if you use royal purple, redline, etc. you dont NEED friction modifier, because it already comes with it... however, i would add to it, so YES it would be smart to buy a bottle of friction modifier and use it.. it wont hurt anything at all and its better to be safe than sorry
if i remember correctly, the fluid is good for 75K miles, could be more. but i changed mine because i was starting to get peg leg burnouts too and that brought it back for the time being. i used as little friction modifier as i could without getting chatter

changed mine last week with amsoil 75w-90. i had royal purple in it but the parts store was out; looked like clay coming out and that's with doing my gears a couple years ago.
