Default motor knocking

Ok i just recently got back from deployment. right b4 i left on deployment i cracked the stock( plastic) intake manifold on the back part. where the cooling line hooks up. after doing so i jimmy riged it to get it to run while i drove the car to storage. where it ran perfetly. after deployment i picked the car up. it ran perfectly once again i drove it about 8 miles. Nothing. ran awesome. a few hours later i flew out. while i was gone ( home on leave) a buddy of mine. and Ex- mechanic who is now a engineer with me on my ship offered to replace it for me. using a book and intallation procedures he installed the new intake manifold. ( a polished alluminum one off ebay. a no namer. or atleast i couldnt find anything on it.) and the installation went great he said. after buttoning everything up he started it. ran good for a few second and started knocking. the knock to me sounds like it was comming from the center of the engine around the intke manifolr but its debatable. cause it kinda sounds like it could be comming from the driver side of the engine. maybe a rocker or something. i really dont know. do ya'll think its a combinamtion of a crappy no name intake manifold and a plastic crappy gasket that causing the noise or did my motor just start knocking out of no where at the same time as the intake installation. all help is greatly appreciated. You can also email me at LEELM@DDG93.NAVY.MIL Thank you

Well it's definately NOT a rocker as our mod motors do not have them.

Are you losing any coolant around the intake anywhere?
