Actually, they're both wrong. I did something far more impressive.
I was in a hurry. This was after my cylinder head replacement had led to a leaking intake manifold. So I replaced it a few weeks later. Had everything back together and in a hurry to make it to a rehearsal dinner for my cousins wedding.
While routing the belt, I *for a still unknown reason* ran the belt OVER the tensioner instead of under it. First off, yes I'm aware that doing so was retarded, difficult to do, and I should have known something was not right because I was having to apply way too much tension to the actual tensioner itself to get the belt OVER that pulley.
Anyways, long story short. I started the car, heard a sound, and my dad who was standing up front said, "oh jesus, you don't want to come up here"
It ripped the pulley, as well as a hunk of the cover that it was attached to, right off.
