2.84:1
1.55:1
1.00:1

The 4th gear is your overdrive gear
You shouldnt be launching or gunning it in O/D.....its very very sluggish and not designed for that. Its not like a 5th or 6th manual gear.
Right this happens when my O/D is off as well I am definitely positive its not a tranny. If i leave the car in second and nail it it sticks then revs up until redline. Same as third. I dont pin the throttle in O/D but i would assume it would happen again. It is at the same rpm every gear except first because well she rockets up the numbers in first. Im not trying to argue the fact that a tranny could do this but I am positive it isnt my transmission.
OK, so ive gone through the entire thread and i noticed the same happens to me, ive got an 03 GT AUTO, but the thing is, mine does it cause the traction control quicks in due to my ****ty cheap ass tires and that bogs the car down.
I think you should try switching the traction control off first, and then traction control and the overdrive off, to see if there is any difference.
I have a manual, but If I am at the top of say 3rd gear (and Im WOT) and I shift .5 sec too late, it feels like the car falls flat on its face, when really I am just basically passing the point where the engine produces power and then hit the rev limiter ( i guess is how it works?)
if that is the same case (being your car is a auto) your shift points are just off by a hair and you need to tell your car to shift sooner
